Does the Columbus sticker say it's SL? I can't make it out. Or is it too worn to tell?
-
• #8
it's the older columbus decal that doesn't specify the tubeset, But it is a 27.2 seatpost and judging by the weight I believe it to be SL. It's lighter than my SLX frame and a cromor I previously owned in the same size

Ooh, tempting

Zootsuit. Got you. Thanks. I'm sure you're right. I looked at some similar on eBay. All SL. All a lot more expensive than this. I hope it's still around when I get paid. I'm guessing it won't be.

Finally admitted defeat and accepted this frame is too small for me ! I never got round to building it up so very reluctantly it has to go .
54cm c-t-c seat tube and top tube. This really is a lovely frame in electric blue Cromovelato finish (fully chromed under translucent blue laquer). Lots of great Panto . Cinelli bottom bracket shell with F cut-out Takes 27.2 seat post. Chrome fork with beautiful Panto on the crown
From what I could gather researching on the web, the 'Competition' moniker may put it a step above other Faggin Campione Del Mondo frames in this style, which have Gipiemme dropouts, whereas this has Campagnolo dropouts. I believe it is mid 80's and Columbus SL . Its certainly very light at under 1800g , forks are approx 600g. With very tight wheel clearances it should handle very responsively .
The only other one I've seen is here that has a full Super Record group so I imagine it was a very nice bike in its day : http://www.pedalroom.com/bike/faggin-competition-1987-7310
Generally in very nice condition, a few areas where the blue laquer has come off (see detailed pics) and marks/scratches consistent with age. The visible chrome is in good condition, a bit tarnished put should polish up nicely . There are small amounts of what looks like tarnishing under the blue paint, mainly at the lugs but I don't think its anything serious . I've tried to show all the above in the detailed photos but pm me if you need to see anything in more detail or if you have any other questions .
