Flyer or Steamroller

Posted on
  • Hi. Has anyone had experience of the Genesis Flyer AND Surly's Steamroller? I've got a Flyer and like it well enough, but I'm wondering if the Steamroller might not be a better choice. I like the look of the 'Roller and Surly's approach in general, but if I make the jump will the Steamroller's ride measure up to the Flyer's, which is honestly pretty good? Discovering which is the 'best' bike is obviously a very personal thing, but I would be interested to hear from those who have experience of both/either, or anyone with an opinion (it all helps). Thanks.

  • I got a steamroller this year and tried a flyer a few years back. Only had 1 hour on the flyer (test ride from Harry Halls). I think quality wise there's not much in it, both far eastern frames, not much difference in weight. I have a 54cm genesis day one and 53cm steamroller, both good to ride.
I like the ethos of both companies, like you say, it's all about personal preference. Can highly recommend a steamroller, use mine every day for my commute.
If you can get to test ride one go for it.

  • steamrolller. new flyer has a horrible unicrown fork and compact geometry. steamroller is badass

  • You're dead to me Tom.

  • I have a Flyer. The main problem is that it doesn't take mudguards.

  • 2014 does.
