How about freestyle straps?
-
• #4
Never used them soz, maybe if I got sent a free pair to test I could endorse them, ;-)

from my experience of powergrips they can be hard to get into, but the have plenty of reallly good reviews so each to his own

I run YNOTs. After going from Hold Fast to these, the difference in comfort is immense. Love em

So you guys ride tricks with your foot out of the strap ?, or are you not worried about crashing and the foot being caught.
-
• #10
Was thinking of trying some YNOTs!
Where did you buy? -

Rather defeatist attitude.

Well i just had a triple fracture and dislocation of my ankle due to horizontal straps not letting go of my foot during a crash, wouldn't recommend it to anyone, painful.
I am thinking clipless might be the way to go, just wondered what others thought about the risks. -
• #18
I think if clipless was the way to go you'd see other FGFS riders doing it.
Get horizontal straps, do them up a little more loosely if you're scared but honestly I'm sure most FGFS riders hurt themselves every now and then, it's sort of the nature of throwing yourself at things while attached to a bike.

So not magnets then?
-
• #21
I think my SO might approve of the diagonal restraps.
Anyone ever used these:

I would never consider riding those brakeless.
-
• #23
Seriously, it sounds like user error is the reason you crashed. Everyone that rides fgfs uses horizontal straps. For a reason. They're the best option...
-
• #24
LOL, it certainly wasn't material failure ... likely a user error on my behalf (i.e. not being able to pull the trick off).
The question is though, should i have been riding the flats, or loose straps ? -

I call troll
Freestyle Fixed Gear obviously demands some sort of foot retention in place of the missing brakes, i wonder about which is the best option though.
When doing tricks and shenanigans we tend to want a quick exit strategy from the pedals in case of a bail, with standard BMX platforms this is a no-brainer but when we need foot retention this becomes highly complex.
Here is how i see the options:
I am mainly interested in the safety in case of a crash/bail but what do you guys think about Freestyle/Tricks on a fixed gear and foot retention ?
