Either if starting with one foot on the ground -

Good point DJ should have added ambi-options in the poll

I'm a left footer and right hander and tend to start rotation with my left. I suppose I'm kinda like a human hybrid!

I was always taught to put down my left foot when stoping for safety reasons. This has been useful twice, once when I fell asleep at some traffic lights and once when the kerb was a metre further away than I thought.
So I wonder if the foot is affected by the country you grew up in.

left foot on floor, right foot on brake pedal, clutch in, 1st gear selected.

Have never thought about it till now, but looking at old photos it seems I tend to go with left foot in front... I was born left handed but now tend to use my right hand more, while in fact I can write or fire a handgun equally well with either hand. However, I'm technically right-footed I guess, if there is such a thing e.g. I would naturally kick a football with my right foot... if for the sake of argument I was ever to kick a football that is.

Has anyone successfully changed?

I'm left handed but I start with my right foot. I'd hypothetically kick a football with my right foot too.

I'm right handed, prefer to set off with right foot, prefer to trackstand right foot forward, and prefer cornering or spinning to my left.
Not sure if those last 2 are of any interest but I've always wondered why I feel happier leaning/turning/spinning left...
Although I can set off and trackstand left foot forward if I must.
Left arm is useless apart from for holding stuff steady or aiming stuff.
... and I eat with my fork in my right hand.

I keep my right foot clipped in when I stop.
I trackstand with my left foot forward.
I also ride my mtb left foot forward. -

Depends on the country, here in the UK left. Otherwise right. It just feels correct to start with the foot on the 'outside' the one towards the traffic.

Right handed and start with my left (right on the floor), but prefer to trackstand and skid right foot forward. Also I prefer to aim things and look through camera viewfinders with my left eye.

My left eye is fucked.

This, exactly.Mainly I think because when I first cycled on London roads, I'd put my left foot on the pavement when waiting for lights to change.

Right handed, I usually start with my left foot on the pedal. I prefer to skid-stop with the left foot forward (working on ambidexterity) but can only trackstand with the right foot forward, handlebars tilted to the right.

Right handed, kick a football with right food, skid with right foot, track stand with right foot forward.

Come on then - show us a picture - the older the better!

Left handed but right footed, might be cos my left foot got crushed n mushed in a motorbike crash (like most of me) weirdly tho i only write with my left hand n do everything else with my right

I voted left left but I've just realised that's complete bollocks and I meant right left. Sorry for ruining the poll; I am very tired.

Left.
Because applying the initial force to the left crank encourages the bike to stay more perpendicular to the banking and can help prevent wheel slip. -

I'm right handed,
something, something, something....
... and I eat with my fork in my right hand.
Finally, someone else does this!
Following discussion about left handedness in the news thread I began to wonder which foot people prefer to set their pedal with and whether it links to 'handedness'. Most people I train choose their right foot.
(I prefer to start with my left foot and am right handed)
So here is a poll to research this:
