I'm no expert y any means, but also fairly recently ( year back ) started using Time atacs. The one nugget of advice if you are having knee pain is ensure your legs are fully extended... are you riding fixed per chance?

The competitive cyclist fit calculator is good, I had a bike fit and my position didn't really change at all, but he fiddled plenty with my cleats.

Your legs should not be fully extended in your pedal stroke.

I have used the Competitive Cyclist system to fit many people for road bikes with good results (no complaints, no injuries), only one went on to have a pro bike fit and the only 'significant' change was to advise him to switch from 172.5 cranks to 170. I would always advise consulting an expert with advanced systems at their disposal if there are known injury problems or unusual physiological issues (odd length legs, foot deformities). The key thing with CC system is accuracy of the measurements and to that end they can only really be done with the help of another person IMO. I also find that other than elite athletes the reach to the bars is always a bit on the long side, and for all-round riding comfort/performance go for the so-called 'Eddy Fit'.
What do I need?
A proffessional bike fit.
Can I afford it?
No.
I never had any discomfort until recently, although my position has overall been a bit random and ropey. But having just started using clip in pedals (ATAC aluim) I have been getting some pretty nasty knee pain.
So…. are there any aspiring bike boffins who'd help me out with a bit of positioning issues?
I drop by your place. You regale me with your knowledge whilst we tweak my seat/seatpost/cleats. And perhaps discuss whether I need a new stem. Whilst you make snarky insults about my sitting position and pedalling technique.
I pay you in beer or help you move a piano or something.
