...running 48/16 not 44/16 anyone running 48/16? could i go bigger? its a pricey spend to be playing around, not as easy as just buying rear cogs to try different gears if you get my drift.
Im torn between keeping a sugino crankset or going with a miche, if so ill change to a miche crankset as the pcd on a 48 seems to be 140 from the research ive done. Do they ride well? whats the quality like?

I'm pretty sure the Miche cranks will have a 144bcd like most track cranks. You can buy easily pretty much any size chainring going up into the +50t's. rear cogs are a cheaper way to adjust your ratios. DA will go down to 13t, so just get something sensible based on what ratios you want.
In terms of quality I'd say just work out your budget and get what you want. I've got the old Miche track cranks on my beater with the chainring bolts that commonly strip in the crank, mine has been fine. I also used to have a messenger, and other than being a road crank some how branded as a Track crank it was also fine. I think most modern cranks are going to be sufficient.
If I was looking for a crank for a street fixed, I'd probably just look for a good deal on a set of road cranks with external bearings and then switch the chain ring. If you're going to be riding track and racing it may be more useful to go for a standard 144bcd crank just because its what everyone else would have, in case you needed a spare I guess.

Thanks Hugo, just checked over my message and 140 must have been a typo, yeah the problem I was up against was I like the messenger cranks I'm running which are 130bcd and the miche advanced chainring I liked is 144bcd so would need to swap out the cranks too because the bigger chainrings dont fit. Money isn't a problem tbh as I've been saving for the swap for some time.
Been looking at 48 tooth and keeping the rear at 16, I've played around with multiple rear cogs on my other bikes and the next step for me is the chainring i think, I'm building up a winter commuter for bad weather so ill put the 44tooth 130bcd on that and then once I've chosen cranks with 144bcd I can swap out the rings as and when on the new bike.

You can get chainrings up to 53t.
But if money isn't a problem buy some up to date cranks.

My own opinion; I used to run 46/16 and it was fine, quite the all rounder tbh. Good at accelerating and maintaining top speed but there was a lack of skid patches. (Not a problem if you don't skid a lot). I am now running 48/16 and it is slightly slower at accelerating but maintaining top speed is much easier. The only downside I could think of this gear ratio is the severe lack in skid patches amd the fact that if you want tp go for a gentle cruise you might end up putting some work to get the bike going. (Just my experience, my legs could be weaker than yours) From both gear ratio experiences; I think 48/17 would be the better ratio that combines both quick acceleration and maintaining speed without spinning too much. And plus you get more skid patches. #JustMy2P's
Use a 44tooth sugino messenger crankset 130 BCD 165 arms atm and am thinking of upgrading my crakset so i can put the sugino set on the winter/rain commuter im building up for the coming winter.
