  • Very sad to see this go but it's not getting ridden enough/i've done my back in/I'm moving to a smaller flat.
Seems like it's time to sell :(

Dave Lloyd Concept 90 Reynolds 753
    Seat Tube (ctt): 54cm
    Top Tube (ctc): 53.5cm

Here's what Hilary Stone has to say about it:

"Dave Lloyd’s Concept 90 frame introduced as the name suggests in 1990 with sloping top tube predates the Giant TCR frame by some six years but the reasoning behind the Concept 90 design is quite different. The Concept 90 sloping top tube design on the other hand was custom built (and silver brazed without lugs) to fit each rider. The sloping top tube was used to reduce the size of the main triangle and thus improve frame stiffness. The seat tube on the Concept 90 was quite normal in length – with a long extension above the top tube. It was only the rear end of the top tube that was dropped to meet the seat tube further down. And the rear stays were brought in to meet the seat tube at the height of the top tube. This was done in a clever and very stylish fashion with a wishbone arrangement for the seatstay top end – this design had been used on MTB frames but it was novel on a road frame then and looked exceptionally neat. The head tube height was quite conventional. Overall the result was a tremendous looking frame which was at the time quite original in appearance.
This frame is the one that was featured in Cycling Plus magazine 151 Design Classics"

    Brakes: Campagnolo Chorus
    BB: Campagnolo Chorus
    Wheels: Campanolo Shamal (1994)

    Saddle: Prologo Scratch Pro Ti
    Cables: Campagnolo

    SOLD WITHOUT PEDALS

Everything is in excellent condition apart from the 3TTT bars which have a little bit of zig-zaging one side.

  • Absolute beaut.

  • Stunning, pricey but I think its justified...

  • Why do these never, ever, come up in my size?

  • Arghhh if this is still around in a couple of weeks (unlikely!) I will take it...

  • wow. that frame...

  • really really nice...
some people might not get it, but that frame is amazing.
it's also the kind of geometry really high end bikes adopted these days...and for a reason

  • Dat wishbone

  • sex

  • Beautiful frame indeed but i thought Reynolds advised against chroming 753 tubing?

  • Rear end could be 631/653/531 etc...

  • Beautiful frame indeed but i thought Reynolds advised against chroming 753 tubing?

They did, but people did it anyway.

  • 653

is a mix of 531 tubes and 753 stays.

  • Rear end could be 631/653/531 etc...

653 was a mixture of 753 rear stays and 531 forks and main tubes.....but i think Reynolds 753 was like 531 in the sense they comprised forks, main tubes and stays.....the main differences between 531 and 753 was 753 was rolled a bit thinner and was heat treated.

The frame in question is drop dead gorgeous without doubt.

To be fair all the chromed 753 frames that i have heard to have failed were made Peugeot.

  • my bad.

    Thanks for the education (:

  • stunner... wish it were my size

  • Finally got the lowdown on 653 the other day just for anyone who is interested.

    Hello Tim,
Although we don't have staff in the office now from around that time, Terry
Bill (worked here ~ 48 years until 2010) did tell me that Eddy Merckx wanted
more compliance in the front triangle, and less in the rear stays. So 653
had 753 heat-treated stays, and a 531 front triangle. I think Indurain also
    used 653.

Because 753 was heat-treated and at that time few builders had used this
kind of material, the tubing had to be silver brazed into lugs.531 could be
fillet brazed or silver soldered . So I would guess that accounts for the 2
methods used on the frame mentioned.

    Hope this helps.

  • love those wheels

  • i am so, so tempted to buy this. I already have 2 road bikes but i so badly want this beauty

  • Wow, GLWS not that you'll need it!

  • Just to answer the questions I've received about splitting:
I'd prefer to sell it whole (less effort!) but if it doesn't sell I'll think about splitting.

  • Price Drop!
Might be time to split if it doesn't go at this price...

  • It looks worth every penny to me. Guess you just got to find the right buyer.

Shame to split as it's such a nice build.

  • This is such a peach. If you split then i'm definitely interested in the frame and forks. let me know a price, Happy to collect.

  • Truly beautiful bike and nice kit on it too.

I ride a 51x55 concept 90 and it's a real joy - had a happy 122 mile ride on it at the weekend.
