Long reach brakes.

  • Right, I'm probably being stupid, but.

I'm building an old Holdsworth road frame (very bloody slowly) and I've come to a sticking point with brakes- the rear brake bridge is too far from the rim for the brakes to contact (not sure by how much, can measure tomorrow) even with 57mm long drop brakes.

Am I missing a trick or is my only option the homemade drop bolt Sheldon suggests?

  • Is the frame designed for 27" or 700c wheels.
The difference is about 6mm on the reach to the brake calipers.

  • I assumed it was 700c, which is what I'm running. I have no actual evidence however.

    Incidentally, the front fits- just.

  • alhonga brakes from spa cycles have a longer reach, you could try those

  • Ah, that looks more like it!

Actually, the Tektro R365s Spa have look spot on. Will double check drop before purchase but thanks!

  • If its an old English frame then the chances are that is was built for 27".

  • try some dia compe brs202 calipers, think they have a reach from around 57 to 75
