I'm not convinced that female specific frames are any different - they seem to be normal geo, but always with shorter stems and flowery crap paintjobs. It actually really fucking irritates me that bike companies assume that girls don't want good looking bikes, and would prefer swirly shit all over them in pink.
I set my GF up on a normal geo bike after a bit of measuring and she loves it - she also likes that it's not a 'girly' bike.

I've been researching a new road bike and was totally convinced by women-specific as I do have longer legs and a shorter torso relative to my overall height.
But what Dan says appears to be true: 'women specific' seems to = shorter stem. Fewer flowers these days but still a remarkable amount of pink featuring in paintjobs, even subtly.
I have enough bits knocking about to build my gf a road bike. Are there any women specific OTP frames out there I should consider? Is there a decent 2nd hand market? If not are there any good alternative frames to consider? Does female specific even make a difference?
