Hi JasonYour products seem to be fantastic value and I'm very interested.
I have a few questions for you.1) I weigh 160 lbs and I am a powerful rider. The wheels would be used for circuit racing and this would involve a lot of heavy breaking and sprinting out of corners. Do you think they would be strong enough or might I be better with deeper section rims? If so could you make a recommendation please?
[jason] The 38mm tubular wheelset is ok, strong enough.
2) Would you be able to do different rim depths for front and rear say 38 MM Front 50 Rear?
[jason] we can offer 38mm front and 50 mm rear if you need, if you need Novatec carbon hubs, the price is usd 555/pair, shipping by EMS is usd 75/pair.
3) Would you be able to supply them with Novatech carbon hubs. If so cost please.
[jason] The we have tubular wheelset with Novatec carbon hubs + Pillar spokes and nipples (NPP), the price is usd 540/pair for NPP 38mm tubular wheelset, shipping cost 75/pair, please check if it's ok for you.
4) Last question is that I think it would be very cool and a bit different to have the wheels with your company name in Chinese characters on them? Is this possible?!
I.e
[jason] how about the english words (see attached photos for your reference), add cost 80usd, no Chinese characters.厦门Carbonal综合技术Co.,有限公司
Many thanks for your help.
Best wishes

Hi all,
I've added my emails to 'Jason' from China in the hope this might help my quest. These are great wheels. Might also consider some kind of cash offer. -

I've got a load of classic 90's kit, Mavic SSC starfish chainset, Cinelli bars/stem, PDM look pedals, Turbomatic neon saddle, Edco Titanium/aluminium headset, matching gold Benotto bar tape, it's worth about 500 ebayed, probably a bit more because it's mostly minter stuff see pics. In addition to pics: Suntour Cyclone brakes, Campagnolo 980 front/rear/gear levers. All late 80's early nineties.
Without seeing it I reckon your frame is more likely late 80's as Telfer built very few frames after 1990. I've got a road one 1988 finished in PDM colours.

Well to be brutally honest, these wheels that you paid £390 for 15 months ago are available shipped, with the Novatech carbons for £315 now. The 1300g alloy Novatechs are only £235, and yes that's pairs, shipped to the UK. However you sell it youre punting second hand wheels which youd be vv lucky to pull £220 for. Theyre coming down in price every week. My SSC chainset and Suntour brakes are worth more than your secondhand wheels.
Good luck selling em.

A good set of secondhand Shamals cost you £500 upwards, you might get a front in trade for your wheels. A C Record group 800-1100, Croce 6-900. SSC 750-1000.
Either youre hoping for a mug to swap retro for your chinese knitted wheels (unlikely post ebay) or your sadly out of touch with the spiralling cost of 80/90's retro.
I just sold the PDM pedals to a german Concorde collector for 235 Euros, of course you could probably teach me a thing or two about retro...

I doubt your Suntour brake are worth much more than £50 but am happy to be proven wrong! Always learning!
Just out ouf interest, what make the pedals so desirable? I have tons of very similar Look pedals in the garage that I reckon are worth £10 on a good day?
Not trolling just genuinely interested

They are neon pink and were the stock pedal on the Concorde PDM team bikes, they favoured neon finishing kits like PDM pink pedals, neon yellow turbomatics, pink bartape, and any other gory fluorescent they could spec. I'm not trying to be flash but one of these neon kitted PDM team bikes (Gert Theunisse's) sold for 13k euro at last years L'Eroica.
This guy thinks 90's retro falls from the trees. Its the fastest appreciating vintage kit out there. I saw a pair of Suntour Superbe NOS brake levers sell for £180 at a bike jumble recently. If you've got any, clean it and hide it under the bed!

Just to clear up valuations, the SSC chainset I was willing to trade is in near NOS condition, boxed NOS versions are selling for $750 plus online. Gift horse in the mouth ect.

And just so that potential buyers are in full possession of the facts, its right to say he was *taking a chance purchasing these wheels. Around 50% of carbon wheels direct shipped frok China arrive damaged or mechanically unsound. You'd be taking a chance too, on these wheels. And without any guarantees or safety of return on your money. Caveat Emptor and all that.

You're going to need something to back that 50% figure up- I've imported a fair number of both rims and complete wheelsets, and the vast majority have been absolutely fine.

The stuff you offered to me is scrap/shit.. I know what I’m dealing with but unlucky for the German guy you claim to have sold to I think he did not. The only thing I’m remotely interested in your ‘offer’ is the Mavic Chainset. However even with a mint SCC chainset I would probably not mount it on a bike I was going to use. If I sold it to someone; I would make them aware to proceed with caution. When new they were recalled cause they had a tendency to crack./fracture. So certainly would not be interested in an old knackered one. With regards to the wheels I offer.I took the chance purchased them from China, they are very light, unused. If you do your research you will know that most stuff comes from factory’s in China. I not trying to rip any one off and am being honest about there origin. Any thing from a bike shop in the UK of a similar weight would cost 3x as much. Yes I don’t know there durability but not claiming other wise -

Your experience is different from mine. When you look at the shipping disclaimers on the Chinese adverts on Ebay you can see there is a sincere justification for the 50% figure. Importing rims is significantly safer than trying to get wheelsets here in one piece. No wheelbuilder I know would contemplate trying to get a wheelset shipped from the Far East.
-

Clearly your completely ignorant of the value of retro 90's kit. Fair play, I'm not here to educate you. Your wheels are worth £200 max, you say they are *new, but they're not. They are secondhand sold without any warranty whatsoever.
Like I said good luck selling them.

Fuck it, here's ten pence towards your education: Look only produced these pedals for one season with the PDM logo exclusively on Team Issue and top end retail Team replica Concorde bikes. Thats what makes them worth more than your unwarrantied, secondhand wheels.
-
• #24
Why don't you sell them for whatever you say they're worth, then use the currency you get in return to buy stuff with?
Rather than indulging in a bout of epic whining.
-

Who's whining, the guy thinks his wheels are worth the price of an £800 C record Groupset. They're worth 200 quid of unwarrantied, secondhand carbon. End of.
Hi All,
I took the chance and purchased the wheels below from China. They arrived fine and have sat in my loft for 15 months! Claimed weight is correct! They are a great set of wheels. I am now planning on building a 90's time trial bike and have recently purchased a Rob Telfer 753 frame. H
Is anyone interested in swapping any top quality 90's equipment for these wheels? Looking for Group (Ie C Record Croce, Du Aune, Dura Ace, Mavic SSC) rear disc or pair of shamals with 650 front and i can give you my 650 unused mavic wolber tx profile wheel. Cash possible either way depending on what your offering.
Cheers Tim
