  • Just a half marathon? HTFU

  • i've never run before, is enough for me you arshole

  • But is it enough for the children of Ghana and Uganda? How much suffering are they worth?

  • i am not saying that is a lot, better than doing nothing, I guess. is not about the suffering is about helpin g a bit and trying to make this shit world a bit better I guess... WTF?????

You don't need to bloody help if you don't fucking want to

I would like to see what the heck you do when you are 48.

  • You tell them Tika.

  • thanks :)

  • Tika I think you might find the users of this forum are less forgiving of the damage sponsorship schemes / pan-handling does to the reputation and good work achieved by NGA / non-profit organizations - than say your typical co-worker.

If you want to beg for money.. beg for money
If you want to go for a run.. go for a run

If the charity is doing actual good for the children of africa show us the facts.
I might be a better way to generate fundraising.

I don't see any need to link this is with you taking part in a Nike marketing event??

  • "We enliven minds and empower communities to use their own skills and resources to change their lives for the better."

I think I need my mind a bit more enlivened if I'm to understand what is this I don't even.

  • Everyone knows that Ugandans lack the ability to enliven their own minds.

(I am pretty sure the Ugandans can enliven their own minds)

So if the Ugandans are supplying their existing skills and own resources then what is the charity providing?

  • Tommy I respect your point
The other comments were just dim

  • bazwahtever, you problem wasn't the charity, it was me not running a full marathon, innit? It looks like you can't even think by yourself. How funny!

  • If you want to run a race pay your own race fees.

Run to the beat is just an afternoons beano in Greenwhich.

This is an internet forum with a reputation for flippancy. I did retract my flippant comment but then you called me an arsehole.

Charity starts at home remember. If you want to help start with your local community first.

  • I am paying my fees btw and do my fair bit for my community

  • Bravo. Resolved now?

  • I am paying my fees btw and do my fair bit for my community

Com'on folks, if you want to support, support.

If not, perhaps follow Thumper's advice.

"If you can't say something good

    Best say nothing at all..."

Charities are a very personal thing.

I for one am very fond of the Bernie Benevolent Fund, that does excellent work with bald accountants struggling with track standing around saaf London.

However, I do appreciate that others might think this is less than a deserving cause, for someone's hard earned money.

  • yes. I for one am resolved to apologise.

  • she is indeed. sorry to say!

  • I would like to see what the heck you do when you are 48.

I ride my bike on a Tuesday night. I am 52. Good luck with the running

  • So if the Ugandans are supplying their existing skills and own resources then what is the charity providing?

A way for middle class westerners to assuage their underlying guilt and provide a moral counterweight to a lifetime of capitalist exploitation and political ignorance of the third world?

  • Fuckin hell, is this really the right place to discuss the morale of charities / sponsoring events?

  • ^this.
bit sad, given the bright cause.

  • A way for middle class westerners to assuage their underlying guilt and provide a moral counterweight to a lifetime of capitalist exploitation and political ignorance of the third world?

    Do you know the OP?

  • Come on, Marky. Don't let facts, let alone civility, get in the way of snarky internet comments.

    #irony

Based on what the charity says about itself on their website it appears that in essence they help initiate, train and work with local people to help children. So I guess they're providing the catalyst. A large portion of their own descriptions about their activities is around sustainability and working with the local communities so that the communities are able to take things forward.

From what I can see they sound like they have a sensible aim that's a lot better than sending a load of foreigners to build schools when there are no teachers for them, etc. or asking people to give even more money to the fucking donkey sanctuary.
