  • I have this beautiful Wilier Lavaredo Crono 2008 Time Trial Frame up for sale.
It has been used well but is not showing any signs of damage, indeed the frame was measured and is perfectly lined up. The paint has a few chips here and there but is still in great order. The top tube is 54cm long but due to the geo this is more like a 56cm frame, perfect for people around the 180cm height mark.
It comes with the absolutely stunning original Carbon Aero Forks, a shitty FSA headset, and a really nice and smooth Campagnolo Record style Bottom Bracket.
Is €250 a nice price with shipping included anywhere in Europe ?.

  • bottom bracket is installed, it is a geared frame but you can install a fixed wheel by using a half-link chain to adjust the tension. I can include a half-link chain if you wish.

  • so then all i would need is a crank something like this http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/cinelli-mash-histogram/1021476611#photo-content
and wheels to make my fixie?

  • cranks/pedals/chain/wheels would make it rideable yeah

  • ok and this would be ok wlto ride fixed ecen with vertical drops?

  • eccentric bottom bracket or eccentric rear hub would probably be easier than trying to fit the chain and getting the magic gear

  • Have never had problems using half-link chain, fits every time. Helps to have a good chain tool.

  • Why not just use a chain tensioner - keeps chain nicely tensioned even as chain stretches and better over bumpy british roads - bolts straight in rear mech hanger.

  • pfft. chain tensioner how you gonna do fixie skidders with that ?

  • Same as normal - it just takes a chain that say you've got to within 3 or 4 mm of your desired movement and makes it tighter - you can skid or even cycle backwards if that's what rocks your boat.

  • If you are riding a fixed gear on vertical drops a half-link 1/8th is the bombproof and easiest solution.
On a classic road frame with horizontal drops or on pista drops you just use normal 1/8th chain.

Yes, there are Eccentric bits you can buy but to be honest thats a whole lot of moving parts which will at some point loosen and wear.
We ride fixed gear because we like the ruggedness that simplicity brings. Putting complexity back into the equation just negates everything.

  • Yeh -you're not wrong. But trying to get the tension right on a new chain- maybe not perfect amount of play -and then chain stretches a bit and as your on the roads and not a smooth track and bingo off comes the chain - followed by you. Track or horizontal road drop outs are easy -verticals are not - a tensioner does work well , isn't heavy and you are making use of the hole left by the rear mech.
