  • A CYCLIST has died after an accident involving a lorry during the rush hour in Nottingham.

The accident happened in Haywood Street, Sneinton, at 8.30am yesterday morning.

The man, who is believed to have been in his 50s, was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre where he was pronounced dead.

Yasmin Ishaq, 37, who has lived on the road for nine years, said she was horrified by the news. "It's really sad," she said. "It's so horrible what's happened.

"The road was closed for a couple of hours. There were lots of police cars and it was cordoned off.

"There was a car opposite the bus stop and a bike on the floor next to it. The buses were stopped from going down the road as well."

No one else was injured, but the road was closed until just before 1pm while officers carried out inquiries at the scene.

One man who lives on the road, but did not want to be named, said: "It's shocking – it's so sad."

Witnesses are asked to call police on 101, quoting incident number 160.
