If you want a bike to look nice, it either has to be geared or fixed, SS is the crappy middle ground between.
Except for polo bikes, there are some pretty SS polo bikes out there.

dont piss on this james, just want to see some sexy bikes

Single speed is only sexy on MTBs. On road bikes, it's a cop out for people who need to HTFU and ride fixed.

Single speed is only sexy on CX bikes. There's already a huge thread full of 'em.

SSCX is for people who like to dress in women's clothing and flounder about in a mud bath, but with none of the sexiness that would seem to imply.

I too want to see sexy SS bikes, I only ride SS (hills are too big where I live and like to go down them fast without feeling like my legs are going to fly off, or brake) and want some inspiration for my new build. which is this frame I just bought http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Brian-Rourke-road-frame-1970s-22-75-unmarked-and-beautiful-531-Campagnolo-/271201172657?nma=true&si=An%252BhQ1gnMHiWXMctug6XFes%252F2LY%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

NFI why one should HTFU.
Stoopid idiomatic machismo acronym, FFS.

Ok, I get this. I ride single speed a fair bit to work, gives the knees a break every now and again. Upgraded one bike to a kickshift two-speed hub - still looks as clean as a single speed but gives you a bit more top end. And no clips or cages on the pedals means I can ride in shoes. Ideal for meetings.
Clearly I'm old before my time.

which hub have you got Sram or sturmey? any good?
-
• #17
It's a Sturmey - and, yes, it's ok. You need to be a bit patient with it and sometimes it will change when you are coasting if not too careful but I like it. Will dig out a link to the build.

Looks nice!
I was looking into those, the sram one looked good as you dont need to back pedal to change gear but apparently it could change too early sometimes. But they are more expensive and don't look as good as the sturmey. might look into getting one in the future.

Citygent had one of the sa ones and had lots of build quality problems iirc.
-
• #21
I can't say I'm totally surprised. If you buy one of these expecting perfection, you'll be disappointed. Be prepared to want to get on with it. I do, just about.

Yes, ec90x
I know among forumites there is an almost endless amount of super rad tarck (and track) bikes fitted with ludicrously expensive components whether justified or not, and impeccably co-ordinated too.
But I do not recall seeing many of this ilk, amongst the freewheel fraternity?
The odd few mudguard equipped practical old man bikes perhaps. But nowt else.
What is out there?
