This is very tempting. Will try to jiggle my rota so that I can have the day off and a couple after, then I can get the train on to Norwich where I spend most of my weekends anyway.

I got excited as I thought it was Wild Camping in the title.
Still, wild swimming's just as awesome.

I'm totally gutted I can't make this ride. I'll be in Essex (!) for a 40th birthday party. I'm trying to figure out a way I could ride out to Essex, go to this party, stayover night there and then somehow catch you up near Chipping Ongar but I just think it would be beyond rude to the sister-in-law.

One day I'll join you, KT Bee, always fancied going wild swimming.
But that day I'll be gaining my day skipper qualifications (hopefully) just off the coast from Ipswich not far from your destination.Al x

Quite a way off the coast given Ipswich is 12 miles inland ;-)

Although I am actually allergic to water and I find swimming is only mildly preferable to drowning, there is something undeniably enticing about jumping into a river. I'm keeping my eye on this.

what no list?
-
• #24
I find lists a bit stressful - for 5 mins it looks like the entire forum is coming, then everyone starts dropping out and it looks like the ride is a failure before it's even started. But then I do tend to over-think, so maybe we should have a list.

Maybe start a list of people who would like a list and use that to help decide if there should be a list.
NEW ROUTE NEW ROUTE NEW ROUTE
80ish fixed-friendly miles from London Fields to Dedham Vale, with swimming at the end for those who want it.
Suggest we meet 8am again (and really will get there for 8am this time) as it's quite a long ride and worth maximising swimming time.
There's a Co-op and pubs in Dedham for stocking up on beer and food (and a handily placed river for chilling beer), and a National Trust tea shop by the river, if that's your thing.
Trains back from Manningtree (about 20 mins ride) every half hour.
Route (with many thanks to Fox, who made it much better)

Disclaimer
I'm kind of resigned to the fact that the weather probably won't be as amazing as last year, and hey, you'll get wet at the end anyway, but if the weather is really horrible it probably isn't worth doing (and I'm keeping 1 September as a back-up, just in case)
