some of those bus stops require the bus to cross the cycle lane to get to the bus stop. Pointless.
-
• #3
Buses down there can be annoying when they repeatedly overtake then cut in, can't hurt to have the option to go to the left of the stop.
-
• #4
But the ones without that will be a pain.

Until you hit a ped.

You could just TT it down the central lanes if it's a 20mph zone.

Looks good, will be the same or better than it currently is so I'm all for it
-
• #9
Does look better, but can guarantee that they'll use that horrible rough bumpy green surface for the cycle lanes.
-
• #10
Grass?
-
• #12
Well yeah, that's the main purpose of cycle lanes though.
-
• #13
could just improve peoples driving.

and 20 trillion gbp to do a mere mile of road? the roads going to need to be re done anyway, but lets make it more cycle friendly because thats an obvious thing to do, then we can start up some huge campaign to show how good we are!

Damn guvment, be taking our guns next.
-
• #16
Fuck that riding behind bus stops I'll stick to the road just resurface it thanks

Hey guys, Thought I'd sign up as I've been riding for a year or so around the city, I've found that a huge amount of the bus drivers on Oxford road do enjoy a good cut up if they aren't in a good mood, i tend to stay behind them at junctions near bus stops too. My main problem is avoiding brutal potholes while there's 2 double deckers up your a** it's daunting at 30mph.

Can't see the video thanks to Chinese censorship but on the issue of going to the left of the bus stops on Oxford Road, the city I'm living in at the moment (Chengdu) has developed a pretty good solution to that issue. Basically there is the regular bike/scooter lane and on a lot of newly built roads they've just reduced the amount of pavement and just carved a bike lane behind the bus stops.
Obviously that is not possible at every bus stop on Oxford Road given how narrow some of the pavements are but there are at least a couple of dangerous spots the city council could at least pretend to take something similar in consideration. Bit ridiculous they always talk about promoting cycling but infrastructure in Manchester is still diabolical.

Oxford rd is plenty wide for bikes cars buses and taxis this work is pointless I've never had any problems riding it I quite enjoy it its rusholme thats the problem
-
• #20
Rusholme is a death trap! To be honest I think it's a lost cause, would be better to invest more into Anson Road and the likes, always feel a lot safer cycling down that way than try to navigate the Curry Mile.

CM is fine - enjoyable, even - if you take the lane.

Amazing how beautiful cgi walk throughs always are, set in a perennial Barcelona summer! Oxford Road never looked so good and of course, never will. :-)

Amazing.staggering the amount of money piling into schemes like this in the
UK
Credit to the instigators, knowing that road it does contain enough space for the designs.
Trying to get people to use 'dedicated' crossings to catch buses will be biggest issue.
Very interesting though thanks OP
What say you RHB? -
• #24
trying to keep peds at the bus stops from standing in the cycle lane will be an issue.

Definitely mr dopest , the cycle lane past the whitworth art gallery is a fine example of this its a fucking nightmare , waste of time and money in my opinion
As in the title. Didn't think Oxford Rd was that bad to cycle down really, but I'm all up for less cars in the city.
