I've got a lovely, original, EG Bates musette that I might be willing to part with if the new owner is interested ;0)
-
• #4
Right if this doesnt sell complete I will consider splitting, so feel free to make an offer on any part!
-

No interest in this at £200?
The parts alone are worth a lot more, but price drop to £190 as want it shifted ASAP.
Will post a component price list tomorrow if no one takes it complete.

Right I have had some interest in most of the parts, so willing to split (preferably into chunks).
F & F I would let go for £100, which I think is a steal for a proper British steel frame from the late 40's

Oooh. Nice lugs. I have an EG Bates, but one of the 80s ones possibly built by Dave Yates for the shop. This^ is lovely, no doubt built by the Bates brother himself.
I'd be interested to know: do the seatstay eyes have a bit of a scalloping rather than being flat? I've sometimes wondered if this was an EG Bates signature detail.
btw it's 'Plaistow' not 'Plainstow'.

Oh now I look properly, no they have that sort of sharpened pencil look.

I will have a look at the seatstay eyes later when I get home...
I know it was Plaistow - I actually bought it from a guy there!

...The project is a 56 x 58cm 531 EG Bates (lesser known brother of Horace Bates) of Plainstow frame with the majority of parts needed to build it up...
heh^, just sayin! Good luck with the sale. It's worthy of some nice resto love.

Yeah I realised tat after I typed it, doh!
Yeah I woudl really love someone to buy it complete and build i up - fairly sure it was built by Eddie Bates himself (http://www.classiclightweights.co.uk/builders/bates.html)
You would be in good company - not only Skully, but Sheldon as well!

Now on eBay as no bites here, so withdrawn from sale.
Something a little bit different for sale… I bought this ages ago with the aim of doing it up as a Sunday best, bought a load of bits, then got distracted, put in the loft and completely forgot about it till sorting out this weekend.
The project is a 56 x 58cm 531 EG Bates (lesser known brother of Horace Bates) of Plaistow frame with the majority of parts needed to build it up.
The frame is in pretty good nick for its age, with one small ding in the top tube which I have tried to capture in the photo. I think the paint and decals are amazing and with a bit of cleaning up would look even better. The frame takes 26 ¼ wheels and has mounts for mudguards and a front light.
Frame and Forks only now - [strike]£100[/strike] [strike]£90[/strike] [strike]£80[/strike] eBayed as no bids!
Loads of photos here https://plus.google.com/photos/118159660364774458384/albums/5874949407259949649
but let me know if you want any more.
[strike]Full list of bits (none of which are connected to the frame!)
New Bits
2 x 26 ¼ Raleigh tubes
2 x 26 ¼ Kenda Gumwall tyres
2 x white brake cables
1 x white gear cable
1 x red cloth bar tape
Old Bits
1 x BB, unknown make and quality (probably new one needed!)
1 x Headset, unknown make and quality (probably new one needed!)
1 x chain unknown make and quality (probably new one needed!)
Cottered cranks with used pins
48 tooth chain ring (has ebw engraved on it?)
Saddle bag rack (bag was carridice but was rotten)
8 cm Stem with cool detailing (was lined in red)
2 x “GB Sport” side pull brakes, made from Hiduminium
2 x brake levers (I assume also GB)
1 x bell
1 x Seat pin
Simplex LE rear derailleur and shifter (has vit chaine 238 engraved on)
Brooks Champion B15 Narrow (tightening screw hasn’t been used yet, so loads of life left)
Handlebars
2 x Dunlop official lightweight rims
2 x very cool and Rare British Hub Company Sivada Hubs, front is 32H, rear is 40H flip flop, currently with nothing on the fixed side but a 4 speed Packson perfection freewheel on the other.
Rear wheel is built with rusty spokes, front is unbuilt but I do still have the old spokes as well.
Hopefully that is enough details! Some of these parts on their own are pretty pricey, but I would love to see it all go to one place and be built up, so not willing to split to start with.
I have no idea what this is worth as it currently is, so I’m going to start at £200, but tell me if I’m miles off! I’m based in Reading but can probably arrange to get it into Paddington somehow, but not willing to post at this point. [/strike]
