"Sprucing up" an old HED3 disc wheel

  • What are the options for adding a bit of colour to an old disc wheel? Sharpies, graf markers? Have an old Hed3 I want to use on track this year. It's fine as is, but I already plan on using marker on the brake rim, wondering if there's a sensible way to put a little colour on it too.

  • Motorbikes often have these hiviz / colour rim strips. I think they're called rim tape. That would over the breaking surface better than a sharpie, as some colour, and give a more professional finish than adding stickers, drawing on it etc.

There was a bike in porn that had it on the front and rear.

  • Rim tape goes under the tyre, we use electrical tape to hide the braking surface.

  • He's talking about motorbike rim tape, which goes on the rim, like this:

  • That doesn't come in 700c though, does it?

  • I have no idea, but if there's a bike in bike porn that has it one would assume the owner of said bike found a way to make it work.

  • hed3 or disc?

I think they come in rolls.

  • I guess so, it's pretty common in the HHSB thread for people to use electrical tape to cover braking surfaces, you can get it in other colours too, should you want to.

  • hed3 or disc?

    ???

    Like a randy baker?

  • like royce

  • Sorry HED. No 3 d'oh

  • Btw, it's more the large circular area I was thinking of working on. Electrical tape might make more sense for the braking area though.
