No-Name Track Frame

  • Big crack found in the seatstay of the commuter forced the purchase of this frame. Estimated 1960/1970s tarck frame, seller had no idea of the builder and there's no frame number.

Have rapidly bunged parts over from the deaded frame, all but the BB which refused to move to the point where I destroyed the tool/BB interface, oops. Will be down the LBS tomorrow for a new one.

    Really like the skinny forks

  • Going to build it up as is for now, but really want to strip off the paint firstly on the fork and paint it white, and then the rest of the frame and perhaps give it a raw finish. Also toying the idea of getting decals cut for the down tube saying 'No-Name', but wondering if that's too post modern. couple of dings on the top tube which will be covered by a protector but may see about getting them repaired when I sort the paint out. Got campag cranks for it when I get a BB

  • can anyone tell how to get a front brake on this? Need one with a shorter drop. The fork is drilled but I'm not sure what might be compatible

[edit] Measuring it from the hole to the middle of the braking surface on the rim is about 3.7cm, it seems there are calipers with that sort of drop, but will the brake rub on the tyre as the clearance is so tight?

  • Cranks on and some temporary pedals meant I could take it for a test ride and a maiden brakeless journey for me. I didn't like it #cowardlylion

  • nice one. would be better without the filtered photos, though. the forks seem to be 531. why not leave it as is?

  • Need a brake! Been riding it as and its a lot of fun, very stiff and responsive, but do want proper stopping ability when required. nd better pics when I have something else but an old iphone3 to take them on

[edit] going to try to fit a Dia Compe BRS 200 to it. Was tracking an entire set of Gran Compe aero but price haz rocketed

  • no problem with the brake - i was talking about the paint. looks good like this

  • It's hammerite: at first I hated it but I'm sorta warming to it now. The fork does need to be stripped and either left raw and lacquered or rattle-canned white. Might re-wrap the bars too, have some used VO leather bar tape I might stick on it

  • yea i agree with hma, i like the paint job as but its completely up to you of course.......plus i think 'no-name' decals idea is too close to 'no-logo' which is a cheap / poor quality brand and you dont want to be associated with them :)

  • Duly noted, hadn't really thought too much more about the decals. Would be nice to find out who the builder is. There does seem to be a frame number but I can't make it out yet, will require a little more sanding on the BB shell (was already like that, obviously looking for the frame number, somehow they missed it though).

First up is brake (being ordered today) and sanding down the fork (at the weekend) anyways. Oh and some decent pictures ;)

  • Got a brake on it finally: had to enlarge the hole at the rear and file down the underneath of the brake to get it to clear the tyre. Not a very neat job but hopefully won't need to use it as much, been fun if occasionally alarming riding brakeless.

Have sanded down most of the front forks all bar the fiddly bits. Sandpaper has it limitations. Will decide whether to lacquer it raw or paint it white. Hmmm

    Love the seatcluster

Do love a good lug, as the actress said to the BIshop

    Nitto cabin, slammed stem

    Just being badass

  • Looks pretty boss. Isn't that seatpost bolt going to carve up your legs? Btw quick release on front wheel is wrong way round.

  • Does rub occasionally but nowt serious, have thought about chopping it down. QR has already been flipped. Oh and the bike is brakeless again, still not enough clearance for the brake, getting a smaller tyre to solve it. Loving riding it though
