Polishing chrome

Stripped the paint off an Olagnero and, as expected, the chrome under the paint isn't as "finished" as the chrome that was on display.

Can it be polished up to the same standard or has it been applied in a way that makes this impossible?

It is the polishing of the parent metal that gives the finished article its lustre,so,in a nutshell,sorry it will always be crap,unless you have it stripped,polished & plated.
