Good luck to you sir.

Sounds like a nice balance between off-the-peg prices and a custom, one-to-one service which a lot of people want but are priced out of.
but at the offer price, we won't be making any money out of you for a little while yet
If that is the case charge £999 and take the extra to reinvest in building a brand. You are offering such a rare commodity as personalised service and a custom build. It sounds like you have technical skill and your frames are well made. People will pay the extra but they have to desire the product you are selling first. See Brother Cycles and Donhou Bicycles...
if it will work, we can do it
As a customer I'd easily pay an extra £150 for that attitude and approach.
Feel free to ignore my advice btw. -

That looks freakin awesome. Have a bump!
(also, minor thing, I think the TT sticker should have the same proportion of the 't' to the 'and son' as the headtube logo, looks slightly odd on the TT) -

This is great! Good luck coldharbour! Such a nice frame!

• #6
Can this be done as part of the cycle scheme?
-

We can supply full build kits, forks (which can be colour matched) and our shop also takes cycle scheme.
I think that means yes?

Feel free to ignore my advice btw. This is all true, and we wanted to try and find a nice balance between OTP and custom, as often having something custom built from scratch can be a bit overwhelming. In regards to pricing, it would be wrong to compare ourselves to Donhou, for one we don't have the experience, and also, people don't know about us, and as you say don't lust after us, yet. It's not being done cheaply for charity's sake, just a cynical attempt to get the orders in and spread the word! There has to be a bit of give and take, it's a new brand, we need to behave as such. Have no fear that prices will rise as and when it seems appropriate!
Thanks for the feedback -

Cycle scheme is complicated, many headed beast. Please PM me for info regarding it and frames in conjunction. Sorry for the mealy mouthed reply!

• #10
so which bike shop are you doing this through?
-
• #11
I'm a workshop built out the back of blue door bikes. They have all the major trade accounts, plus fully kitted out workshop, and a very experienced (and very miserable) Welsh wheel builder. It's at the top of central hill, so a great place to aim at during a ride. There is also a cafe on site open during the weekend.

Matt,
Stop pissing about on here, and get my Witcomb sorted.
When that's done, you can make me a custom frame.
Deal?

Jingle jangle, sounds like a plan! Will be in touch this week.

Cool.
Be warned, I'm a right arse as a customer:)

I will try my best to maintain in contact through your polite email address...

Why not get Barry Whitcomb to sort it? I heard he's doing repairs still ...
-

Matt (Coldharbour) already has my Witcomb. It's a 'project' for L'eroica, and I'm sure he'll do a superb job.
Barrie Witcomb is still around, but something tells me Matt / Coldhabour / Talbot Cycles is worth a bit of support. He's also sort of in your manor Skully.
Hello miserable people of LFGSS.
For the past few years, I have been frame building in my spare time, trying to build up my skills to the point where I would be happy selling them. During this time I have built a few frames for people on here, and done a few repairs for some of you also.
I have also been a full-time stay-at-home dad and hyphen collector.
It recently became obvious that the time was right for my exo-foetus to be packed off to a childminder, as she was thoroughly bored of me and all I had to offer. This happily coincided with me feeling that my frame work was of a standard that I would be happy for someone I didn't know to give me money for one.
I have teamed up with a shop in Crystal Palace to offer frames, frame sets, complete bikes and frame repairs in store.
However, we have found ourselves in the catch22 position that we do not have enough bikes to properly advertise our services, but because we haven't advertised our presence, we do not have enough orders to build up a body of work.
To rectify this, we decided it would be a good idea to come up with some sort of offer, to give people an incentive to come to us, as we realise that as a relatively unknown entity, we are asking for some faith on your behalf.
The offer being thrown to the baying hounds of this forum adds up to this:
We will build you a frame around 3 loose designs; Road, track and cross.
The geometry will be mostly dictated by us and the size you choose.
The size will be chosen by you. There will not be any standard sizes, as to use a rather hackneyed and nauseating phrase, there are no standard people. I am a member of the T-rex club myself, and find square bikes of very little use to me, one of the reasons I started building frames.
You can chose the tubing diameters, with input from us as to whether we think it will benefit your build. It will have to be built from Reynolds 853.
You can choose the rear end configuration, wishbone, shot back, if it will work, we can do it.
You choose the colour, as long as we can source it, we will paint it.
We can supply full build kits, forks (which can be colour matched) and our shop also takes cycle scheme.
This is obviously still a lot of money, and the best thing to do if you are interested is to pop down to our workshop, have a look at our workmanship, some completed bikes, and we can have a tea and a chat.
This may very well be in the wrong section of the forum, if so please move or delete, I'm not trying to pull a fast one, technically I realise this is advertising, but at the offer price, we won't be making any money out of you for a little while yet.
If you are interested, or just want to come down to the workshop for a look around, you can email me matt@talbotframeworks.co.uk or just PM here.
Hope to speak to some of you soon.
