I'd be interested in hearing people's thoughts on this too. Just bought a late '80s Bianchi Campione in OK condition, but the frame's too big :( So probably gonna have to sell it on. Issues are: Handle bar tape is a mess, one of the lever hoods is broken, a few stone chips appear on the frame and the tyres are perished. What are the quick wins to get more value?

parting bikes is invariably the best way to get the most financial gain but can take a while to do as opposed to a whole bike.
Hwever buying new parts to then resell straight away is flawed as your new parts value immediately drops the minute they come into your possession.
Not worth it IMO, sell what you have as is without buying parts and/or splitting.
there are a few rare bikes it might work for but unless youcan get the parts cheap even that is such a tight market/margin..

if you are going to part it make sure the parts are worth parting
a £300 hybrid probably won't have the parts people on the forum are looking for
if you've got a classic 90's with top end parts then people will snap up the partsPART

Thanks Bump/diki for the thoughts...before I logged in here I'd decided to sell the bike on as a whole. I'm a confident mechanic so parts are going to be replaced nwith new quality items as I'd never want to sell anything on to someone else that was duff. So all, a very nice and (will be) fully serviced Ridgeback Solo will be on advertised on eBay very shortly.

Hey All!
Have one of the last Ridgeback Solo's (56cm). Its served me well but I'm moving on. As it is still running all original parts it's in need of some new parts (chain, freewheel, BB) and a general tidy up if I'm to sell it on as a whole bike. I do all cycle work myself so no labour costs. Is it worth doing up and selling on as a whole bike (do up on cheap/do up with quality parts and add value)? Or stripping it to frame/fork/headset combo and then sell the Sugino cranks, brakes etc separately on somewhere like eBay? I wouldn't want to sling a cheap BB in there to pass on as if I were replacing it for myself then something decent (Sugino 103mm) would be fitted. Not sure if I'd be wasting my money in buying decent parts, fitting and selling on.
Anyone had any experience? Thoughts?
Cheers
DC.
