• ::::::::: SOLD ::::::::::

White Vintage Mercian Olympic road frame from 1977 (The last two digits of the serial number on the fork steerer are 77)

Reynolds 531 tubing (sticker says 531 competition but it is 531)

Sized approx 56cm Center to Top seat tube and 56cm center to center top tube. Standover height is approx 80cm.

    Campagnolo dropouts.
Regular English bottom bracket threads. Threads in good condition.
Mudguard eyelets on forks and rear dropouts and clearance for 28mm tyres with guards.

A previous owner had his name "Eric" added with the Mercian typeface to the top tube, but this has never bothered me and I always thought of it as a bit of a theft deterrent, being quite recognisable.

Obviously used and showing signs of it's age, but still in decent condition with a really nice Red Barbers pole and red lug lining paint job with Gold Mercian decals and red head tube.

There is a stubborn allen nut (from an allen bolt fitting brake caliper) stuck in the fork crown which I have left there as it may as well stay if there's going to be an allen bolt front brake fitted, but can be knocked out for a nut fitting brake to be used.

There are paint scuffs and a few small areas of surface rust around areas where components are fitted (eg. where the band for downtube shifters or cable stops fit, which isn't visible once build up with the band of the shifters or cable stops covering it up.) The seat clamp has obviously seen some use over the years but works fine. I've tried to show as much detail of the scuffs in the photos. It is gorgeous. Depsite the chips and scuffs it still manages to surprise me each time I look at it. It looks better than it should considering it's not in perfect condition, if that makes sense? I think that's down to the colour of the transfers, the lug lining, and of course the Barber's Pole (which also has a small gold line around it too to set it off).

    And one without guards...

  • just like I imagined it...

BTW, why are you selling it? something new coming up?

  • Lovely. One for the classic frames with modern (ish) groupsets thread.

    Haha have some rep

  • BTW, why are you selling it? something new coming up?

Yep. Building something else up that is different to the other bikes I have. I've got 3 road bikes already and this one is very similar and overlaps in use with another one that I end up using all the time instead.

Sad to see it go as it's definitely the best looking, but I can't keep that many bikes.

I had it built with 90s 8 Speed Campag record and that worked really well. I wanted a really functional bike with ergo shifters etc, but comfortable and something special aesthetically too. I was really pleased with the combination of bits on this build and would totally recommend anyone building up a vintage frame to go slightly more modern on the gears / shifters etc to get a really usable but still beautiful bike. The 90s Campag stuff works really well in that respect.

  • lovely frame and a great price too

  • Not mine but here's the same frame that someone has built up with 650b wheels. Was tempted to do this with mine.

  • Price drop? Seriously?!

This is utterly gorgeous, and I think a super price for what you get. Why has no-one snaffled this one up already?

  • I wish I could, but nuknow is my only chance and he's not returning my calls/messages/texts

This would really look nice with my dura ace 7200 groupset
