Its worth just going into a shop and talking to the mechanics, hanging out with them...
We get quite a few people asking about this and usually have to say no as its not too easy to teach people/watch over someone while you are trying to do another service. But the ones who we have let into our workshop are always people who've been in before and maybe been riding with us etc.
Also I 2nd 56a its rad and is run by real nice folks!

100% this^
I've got some real good friends in my LBS!
Does anyone know if there are any bicycle shops who need an extra pair of hands in their workshop?
I'm not looking to get paid. I just want to learn how to fix bikes without paying extortionate amounts of money on Cytech.
Some experience fixing my own bikes as well as volunteer work at a bicycle shop last year for about 6 weeks. Lots I don't know and would love to learn.
