531 Professional fork part Longshot

  • A hell of a longshot, anyone seen one of these before? I know it's not the end of the world and I could get one made, but it would be 'ace' to get the right part.

  • This is the project I've just taken on. It's a Hannington and built from 531 Professional. I've spent some time finding the bits I need to build it, and I'm nearly there. I had some very good nick 600EX so I've gone down that route.
The wheels are Mavic Argent 10 on Superbe...yep Tubs.
I'll be sending it off to Bob Jackson as soon as I get the fork sorted. I've decided on Peppermint enamel.
Finishing kit will be 3ttt bars and stem, white 'out the top' cables and a perforated white Concor.
Can't wait, and I hope to race it at our club only race day.

  • Nice. Are those /is that an alu cap? I presume it's to reduce wieght from the fork crown?

  • Yep alloy plugs, never seen them before. And cunningly hidden in the sellers Ebay piccy.

  • If the forks are going off for a respray you'll need to remove the remaining plug. You could then use it as a template to make another, although you need it upside down as a pattern for the new one. Alloy is easy to work and will buff up like a mirror.

I could do one for you if you can wait a week or so.

  • Yes you're right, I'll try and hoik that one out. They would look good polished.

Just need a 600 post, suitable skewers, clear Benotto tape and cables.

Off to try and get it out.......

  • Couldn't get the existing alu plug out, I'd like to save the look but if I have to have the whole fork resprayed then so be it.
Things have moved on at a pace. I've obtained a nice 600EX aero post, some elusive white Benotto tape and a Dura Ace front skewer. Just need white cables and tub cement.

I set myself a budget of £300 max including the original purchase and a respray, and it looks like I've stayed well within that. Hopefully I'll have it back by the end of April. And ready to race once again in June.

  • The frames all packed up ready to go to Bob Jacksons on Monday. After all the work I hope the rust isn't a show stopper.
I removed the remaining alloy plug.
I also had it weighed and it comes in at just over 1600g which is light.
And I've decided to go for pastel green since packaging it up!
