Install one of these, it's worth the extra cash.

Thanks for the comment - but for the time being, and considering it's backup bike and these parts are in hand, d'yu reckon this one is at all faulty or i'm being neurotic? I can imagine they (the knockdown lp28s) have been sitting in crc's warehouse for some time.. maybe it's just grease...

All I know is that I did the exact same thing - buy the LP28 because it was very cheap, give it a bit of a twiddle when it arrived, with it feeling very notchy. It's got the plastic NDS cup as well. I don't think it's faulty, I think the product is just that bad.

They also weigh as much as a boat anchor. You might as well install it and check that you've got the right chainline / chainstay clearance with that spindle length and then upgrade as and when funds allow.

^ Good idea ncjlee, as might be obvious this is a bit of a hack it all together, assorted parts, learning experience of a build so £2.50 is worth it even if it just informs me i cocked my chainline all wrong

it's going in today
LP28 4 LYFE
So, gathering together bits for my first ever fg/ss..
Various sagas later,
I think i've got everything
Package with remainder from CRC arrives today, i've ordered this cheap-ass BB to keep me going for now until it breaks/I decide to spend more http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=86018
It feels, to my untrained hands, really stiff and almost but not quite "clicky" in that it wants to move in jerks. Fairly smooth but not 100%, however the main thing is the stiffness - it certainly wouldn't carry on spinning at all after being let go, and I doubt if cranks were attached they'd go more than a revolution on their own momentum.
Is this normal? For a shitty cheap one? Likely to sort itself out with use?
I'm just wary of fitting it and realising it needs replacing immediately afterwards....
