Interesting move - but then so is the 10% cap on Cypriot savings... ;-)
For the record - who is 'we' and what takes priority in the weekend's objectives - finding a UK champion or selecting teams to represent the UK at the European Championships?
Will there be any preselection criteria for the Qualification event - if separate - (as in previous years regarding teams not wishing/able to play in the forthcoming Europeans)?
Will teams expressly not able to play in the Europeans but wishing to enter the UK Championships be playing in the Qualification event?
Do you have guidance on how many places will be available for UK teams at the Europeans at this stage?
Should be an epic weekend however it pans out...

I would of said that the UK would of got less spots than last year in a 48 team tournament (euros). However the main bid, Krakow, is saying they're tournament will be 64 team. So therefore I estimate it will be at least 9 spots...?
Regarding the teams that cant make in the euros: I would say that the tournament will be played as the UK champs, then the results will dictate the qualification process (eg. top 9 teams go through) And if a team cant make it to the euros the spot will go to the next placed team. This is what I think anyway.
After all the round robin stages have been played there will be a single elim for the top 4 teams to declare a UK champ.
I'm not eligible to play though :( :(

Just IMO (I'm not organising this).
what takes priority in the weekend's objectives - finding a UK champion or selecting teams to represent the UK at the European Championships?
Neither, the first section (RR) is about qualifying for Europe, and seeding the elim
The second section (elim) is about finding the UK champ.
Will there be any preselection criteria for the Qualification event - if separate - (as in previous years regarding teams not wishing/able to play in the forthcoming Europeans)?
Will teams expressly not able to play in the Europeans but wishing to enter the UK Championships be playing in the Qualification event?
It's not a separate event, see above.
Do you have guidance on how many places will be available for UK teams at the Europeans at this stage?
Not at the moment. I wouldn't be surprised if it's less, There will be more countries involved, with their own, or bigger allocations. We should know before the tournament

RR uncapped tournament? Don't think this is possible unless it's sub 15 teams.
-
• #14
^^ I read it's not a separate event - however, should the 'first section (RR)' you write of (and of course IYO) include or exclude teams unable to play in the Europeans?

At this point in proceedings, I'd like to make a formal request for rain.
And separate events. It's not like this year's NS is filling the calendar, is it?

Format to jig on how many teams sign up. These will be awesome courts. Two of them! If someone wants to organize a qualifier then do it! I just think doing it in 1 will be rad..why we have them. Otherwise lacking two quality courts for a wkend. Bristol is pricey! otherwise it looking at pre qualifers then a qualifer which will may deject some.

2 teams is possible in 2 days, 2 courts. If it's more than that it will be groups. There are potential plans for 30 teams, 40 teams, etc...

Well yes include because it's the UK champs as well.
It will produce a list of teams, in order. Then the X highest placed teams in the RR, who can go, will qualify.

Thanks John.
Just to re-iterate what John has said..Basically we want to take all of the teams in the UK and rank them all in the fairest way possible. So it's an open tournament with as much RR as will allow. 20 teams, 2 courts, 2 days is possible. If the number of teams is up near 30 then it will be split into group stages and some HBomb wizardry will ensue. Everyone will be allowed the chance to qualify for the euros and most teams will get more games than a swiss/double elim format. The teams that qualify but can't go to the euros will give their spot to the next team down the rankings.
The UK champ will be decided in a small single elim, and most likely (TBC) this single elim will not change the qualification rankings.Whatever the case it's going to be a great weekend packed with polo for all.
As Josh mentioned we would really appreciate some help Friday and Sunday evenings with setup and clean up, as the area needs to be cleared for the school kiddies on Monday. (Friday is a school holiday)

What: Cambridge are proud to host the 2013 UK Championships and Euro Qualifiers.
We will be combining the 2 events into one weekend.
When: Saturday, June 1st to Sunday, June 2nd
Where: Netherhall Netherhall Sports Centre, Netherhall School & Sixth Form College, Queen Edith’s Way, Cambridge, CB1 8NN
Map link here..
There will be 2 wooden courts built on smooth asphalt. the boards will be shoulder hight and court will be fully boarded.
Format:
Saturday daytime: 5 rounds of a 29 team Swiss Round.
· All teams to be present at 9am to begin the qualifying process
· At the end of the 5 rounds, the top 4 teams from the Swiss qualify for the Euros.
· This will take roughly 7-8 hours.
· Every team will need to be ready and present Saturday morning at 9am so we can get on with the format.
Saturday evening/Sunday morning: 8 team Round Robin
· Places 5-12 in the Swiss Rounds previously will play a full round robin. The top 2 teams at the end of the round robin will qualify for the Euros. The next 3 teams will qualify for the wildcard. The remainder will go onto the reserve list.
· If at the end of the swiss rounds any teams from places 5-12 knows they cannot send 2 out of 3 to the Euros, they should notify the organisers before the round robin starts, so as to allow another team to compete.
· This format will give us the most accuracy for the places that matter most and will take around 3 hours.
Accomodation: We will try to accommodate as many teams as possible, but spaces are limited so priority will go to the furthest travelled.
There are 2 campsites near the court..these are on the google maps link.
Registration: The deadline for teams and payment is May 19. Please send an email to cambridgebikepolo at gmail.com with your team name, player list and accommodation requirements. Entry fee is £36 per team, a paypal transfer to the above email address if preferred.
