India had full road race teams in the last commonwealth games, they did really bad from what I recall. Actually stopped before the end (but then many did because it was so hot).

I was there a few weeks ago supporting a charity for the blind. One of the Indian volunteers there was a keen road cyclist and told me he rode with a small group - usually further out of the city.
He also told me they were doing a critical mass at the end of Feb with the theme being to ride in formal wear (suits & saris) - I told him about the Tweed Run:

I've been asking around and every seems to stare incredulously at me with a "on these freakn' roads!!!" look on their faces. I saw the guy pretty near the airport road so the road and traffic isn't as bad, but it was still a shock to see. Don't wanna make too much of his skin colour (I'm of Indian origin myself) but he was definitely white/euro/American. Bangalore traffic is nothing compared to Delhi or mubhai roads.plenty of single speeds on roads here, brands such as Phoenix quite popular with brooks-like saddles. All going downhill with odd grunter trying to pedal up them

Phoenix bikes hail from my homeland.

Probably working in Bangalore for a few months, liaising with some outsourced dev team, and couldn't bear to not ride his bike so brought it with him. I know a couple of crazy motorcyclists who flew their bikes out there to go for rides at the weekend.

Delhi is the worst, the chances are getting killed in traffic means you were either in an accident or were shot because you didn't let someone overtake.
Mumbai is much better, might be the only city where they follow lanes. I feel safer to ride/drive in Mumbai than in Pune (my home town).
Hi, I've come to Bangalore today on work stuff and whilst I'm in a cab coming from airport to hotel I notice a full on geared up cyclist on what I'm sure is a carbon road bike!!! Bangalore isn't as bad as some cities for traffic and road conditions are a bit better but it was a surreal moment when I saw him. He was obviously quite "white" or "European". Any know if a pro is training out here? He defo looked out of place and will guess he will come up against major potholes and traffic once he hits town itself
