Sounds like a worn ratchet inside the lever. What year are they? There are some parts available for Campag shifters usually.
-
• #3
or the return spring has broken, usually available and easily replaceable

They're 2003 I believe. Worn ratchet makes sense, is it worth getting it rebuilt professionally or is it alright doing it at home?

Depends how much you can get it done for I suppose. I would try it myself first.

and your confidence level at taking it apart and rebuilding it .. otherwise if they are still active try these people

Or, Just PM me and I will do it for you ;)

Sounds most likley to be worn G-springs. They aren't too hard to replace if you know what you're doing and grab a spares drawing. The ratchet which the springs click against tend not to wear very fast, so unlikely to be that.
See if you can get some help ^ :-)

There are several things it could be - broken G springs, cracked spring mount ring, failed location for the return spring (also part of the spring mount ring) or failed return spring. You can return it Velotech Cycling Ltd, the main UK Campag Service Centre for a strip, clean and rebuild - costs are advised ahead of completion once it's stripped to see where he problem is but typically you'd be looking at around £40.00 - £45.00
If you are looking at doing it yourself, and found broken G springs, we'd recommend replacement of the spring mount ring in any case - often, that's the next tghing to fail & in any case, when the lever has been in use for some while, the G springs form a small indent at the point where they meet the mount ring, so become less likely to hold the gear, especially on the last few clicks towards bottom (easiest) gears.

It turns out it was a broken G Spring, also a cracked spring mount ring - swapped out, rebuilt, tested & returned ;)
I've mounted my recently bought 10 speed Campagnolo Record shifters onto the handlebars and the RH mechanism feels different to the left. Moving the levers on the LH one moves the anchor point to the cable and it stays where you move it: shift up it goes up and stays, shift down it'll do the opposite. RH lever doesn't. The ratchet moves up when you shift up but it doesn't stay there.
Is there a problem? Do I need it rebuilt? I can't imagine that fitting cables is going to sort it out...
Can you help?
