What do people make of those Teman bikes? The parts are budget but the frame sounds okay and the 58cm is only 10kg. Would it be worth it for a tight budget and to upgrade components gradually. ?

I have 250 and need a bike asap. This seems only thing. What do you think.?

  • Nope go second hand, from the classifieds here or on other bike forums, gumtree, or eBay.

For example, this bike significantly better that a Teman when for ~£200 yesterday on teh bay

(Although the handlbar.saddle angle needs sorting)

H will get back to you shortly, he's still working through the correspondence from when steps split up.

  • I agree with what was said above. If you live around London you are incredibly lucky to have this forum. So many great bargains in the classifieds (and ebay). I'm from Ireland and it makes me want to move over just to acess the well priced stuff. I'm used to seeing shit conversions and creates going for 300/400 euro. Also those teman bikes are shite

  • Great thanks!

I live in Leeds so getting to London is not easy but I will keep looking!

  • teman = creates = universal = unipac = broken chains and shit parts

  • But the frame 'looks' solid and it is bloody light for that price?

  • for £250 in here you could get a much better bike
for £250 on ebay you could get a much better bike
for £250 on retrobikes you could get a much better bike

take your time do a bit of research don't rush into buying anything
get something worth while and that you'll be proud of

  • Taken onboard mate, thanks. Ill keep looking. I did enquire about this 531 but I think it might be pretty heavy as I looked the other day at a similar aged 531 and it weighed loads.

  • Couple of thoughts.

531 frames are not particularly heavy. Certainly my 531 from the eighties is lighter than my surly cross check, so I wouldn't get hung up on weight issues.

If you are looking for a new bike at your budget I think decathlon own brand is the best your are going to do.

You ask for advice, get given advice and then continually question what you are told.

They are steaming heaps of turd. You will regret buying one as in the short term you will replace every part on the bike.

Ahh sorry if it came across that way, I was just saying what happened. I have taken on board what I wanted to know so thanks for the input.

had one in our shop today , wheels are piece of junk . heavy ugly and cheaply built . the large "aero" rims on these bikes seem to cause endless problems (lots of punctures) same with any of these cheaper frames , wheels are crap , bottom bracket /cranks are rubbish , pedals fall off, brakes fall apart and tyres will need replacing in no time . we have people constantly coming in with these bikes and we always see the same problems .....steer clear !

531c steel frames are not heavy at all
one of my lightest bikes is a 1980's gazelle 531c frame and forks
it's not as bad as you think

  • ps 10kg for a frame is heavy .....531 fixed /ss full bike would be sub 10 kilo

  • me too its bloody lovely , but its just not aluminium !

i don't know what your thoughts on this are
some people would prefer a nice shiny crap new thing to a old patina'ed bit of quality

and seller is well trusted on the forum

  • of course it is a matter of taste you may think these last two offerings are horrendous but then again have you seen teman paint jobs !!

it is a no brainer !

  • the UK distributor for teman bikes appears to be gumtree and some dodgy bloke down a dark alley near de beauvoir estate

  • What is going on with the steerer?

  • I'd much rather go for something 2nd-hand just because older bikes are much more durable. All the parts will last you much longer. Don't get too hung up on weight either (unless you're constantly going up and down hills).

Playing devil's advocate for one minute: is part of our impression that Teman bikes are shit down to the fact that they're bought by people who don't care about bikes, so most of them that we see are rusting away outside an estate somewhere?

  • What is going on with the steerer?

    1" threaded fork + 1" quill --> 1 1/8" aheadset converter.

  • 1" threaded fork + 1" quill --> 1 1/8" aheadset converter.

new bike with a quill to ahead converter

    facepalm !

look at the bars their angle their size and their proprtion to the rest of the bike
