Pimping HB-7600 hubs

  • Its silly but I'm intrigued-- even contemplating--- colouring the caps on these Dura Ace HF track hubs. Most of the descriptions indicate that the poly-caps are just cemented on and the black colour is simple paint applied from the rear.

    • apply heat with a hair dryer to weaken the cement
    • pry them off with a fine blade or screwdriver
    • sand off the black paint with fine wet sandpaper
    • apply new color
    • glue back on using contact cement

Any experience here? Any pitfalls? How easy, for example, was it to remove the caps without damaging them? What paint was used to color the rear? Model acrylic? Air brushed or ..? How have the hubs held up over time to the "aesthetic tuning"?

  • I've seen a pair that had been re-done in orange, they looked pretty cool.

  • http://dreamworkscycles.blogspot.de/search/label/HUB shows a version with, what looks like (for those so inclined), carbon fibre.

  • is this really something you just discovered?
well I got some great news for you, internet is full of new things.

  • ^a bit grumpy

OP should ask big daddy wayne for tips, who did those orange ones Dammit mentions.
