You can get a kit that includes a tap and larger thread crank extractor, works pretty much every time. I think maybe cyclus make it...

Or if your frame / bb isn't precious a ball joint breaker will do the job.

Crank arm and BB can be sacrificed :)
I'll definitely look into these options tomorrow. I'm off to bed now :P

I used a hammer for exactly the same problem once... took me like 3 hours hammering. Mine was pretty badly seized though, I don't think the maker had even heard of grease

Use a bearing puller, will be a lot faster and safer than flailing away with a hammer
In a bit of a problem...
I'm trying to remove a crank arm which has had it's threading dis-formed by an idiot (previous owner). It looks as if he hammered the metal crank dust caps into the threading which then mangled them :(
I managed to remove the cap but am now left with no threading so I can't use a crank extractor. Had anybody had this problem before and successfully removed a crank arm without an extractor??
Any help would be much appreciated.
