Sorry to miss the first as I'm out of town for the weekend. I'll need to get in some track time before Good Friday - I've entered the Scratch! (Aaaahhh!). If any other ladies are experienced go and give the GF Meeting a go. If I can do it anyone can and, more importantly, it is a great chance to support womens races and hopefully see them kept on the schedule in future years!

Ladies have always been able to ride on Good Friday in the White Hope Sprint, 500m Handicap, Ron Fowler 5 and the devil. We've been running a Ladies keirin for a number of years now and this year we've added a ladies only scratch race too. Entries are not very encouraging from ladies just now. If we don't get a lot more lady riders then the race will look a bit silly and might have to be pulled. Its in your hands. -

Of course I remember you, but don't worry - you won't be riding the Derny race. Events for you would be: Ladies Keirin, Ladies Scratch, mixed Devil, Ron Fowler Scratch. Sprinter type ladies can also ride the White Hope Sprint and the 500m handicap too. The Devil and RF Scratch will have riders that would normally ride in the B events at track league. The White Hope will be an opportunity to record a 200m time and then ride the first round. How you progress after that is down to you. The handicap is just that - good riders at the back, not so good up the front!Hope this all helps.

yes i'm up for the women's first track session of the year on the 17th. I'll be renting a bike, assuming you can still do this?
-

Nice one pinky and kati! And yep - rental bikes available. If you prefer to ride clipless you can switch the standard straps/cages set up with your own. Bring a pedal spanner!
Looking forward this heaps. Need to give my Fuji a clean up!

Where did you get this from Ed? The Herne Hill website is still saying 17th...it was always the case that most sessions would start on the 30th but with a few session (including ladies) starting earlier...

Went. Loved it. Very cold but good fun.
Only complaint was the saddle on the bike i hired.
Change saddle next time.
I took my own pedals.
Very welcoming. Nice to cycle with lovely ladies.
Thanks to the ladies there! :)
Will be back.
Date: Sessions run weekly from Sunday 3rd March, 2013
Time: Official time is 5pm - 7pm [Please note it will run at an earlier time of **4-6 **until the clocks change]
Where: Herne Hill Velodrome, Burbage Rd, Herne Hill
Price: £6 [**I assume prices are staying same as 2012]
Equipment: Hire bikes available FoC. If you need one, pls arrive at least 15 mins before the session so you have time to pick your bike up and adjust the saddle etc. You can change pedals if you want to, but pls bring your own tools to do so. Helmets are available to borrow, but I would strongly suggest you bring your own.
Clothing: Please ensure you wear long sleeves and gloves. Padded shorts are advisable as saddles are not the best.
Beginner Inductions: If you are new to the track, this session is perfect for you. We will give you a one-to-one induction at the start of the session and take you through the dos and don'ts of track riding. Once you are inducted you will join in the general session.
Main Session: The session caters for track riders of all abilities. Riders will be spilt up according to ability and the sessions will be tailored every week to make sure everyone gets a great work out. Throughout the season we will be working on basic skills such as; group riding, holding a wheel, changes, riding the banking, sprinting and basic race scenarios. And then for those who want to, more advanced skills such as standing starts, keiren racing, match sprints, bunch races and advanced track skills.
NB: Sessions can be cancelled at the last minute due to poor weather, so I recommend to going the Facebook group for uptodate info.
