I've not done this on wheels but, generally, when removing stickers a bit of heat from a hairdryer will help them come off whole and residual glue can be removed with white spirit or acetone (nail polish remover).
Edit: I may be doing this on a shimano wheel soon so I can let you know how it goes.

Never had a problem with white spirit. Did have a problem with nail polish remover once.
I would like to take off from my **DT Swiss R1700** wheels the decals and leave them completely black.
I know my question will sounds weird, but before of starting and maybe make a disaster I would like to know if it is possible to do it without having on the rims residual glue or whatever.
Thanks
