  • We discuss food a fair bit on this here forum, but it occurred to me that there isn't a thread about people's post ride eating habits.

Needless to say I'm partial to a fish finger buttie. White bread, marge, ketchup. It's quick to prepare and dead good washed down with a coffee and a chocolate milkshake or a protein shake if I have any stuff in the house. All the fixes I require when I'm all shaky after putting in some miles: Protein, sugar, fluids and a bit of a well earned guilty pleasure to get me perked up.

What's your poison forum? And why? How do you get your immediate food fill? And (if you're so inclined) what's your ideal evening meal to really top up those energy reserves?

  • reflex natural whey protein as it has no artificial sweetner
    add milk/fruit/yoghurt/porridge/fruit juice/oats and blend

i tend to add glutamine powder to the tub of protein too

really quick post ride recovery drink

  • Would it defeat the object if I were to add chocolate Nesquick to it?

  • A big plate of chicken wings and a root beer.
    Gotta keep the weight up.

  • Oh and James I thought you were a foodie - so what's your ideal evening nosh up after a long ride?

    Now we're fucking talking!

  • protein needs to go in to the body within an hour of the ride

so smoked mackerel or grilled sardines on a warm pasta salad

macerated tomatoes, baby spinach, basil, goats cheese in a bowl, throw in hot just cooked pasta, and season, the cheese melts and self dresses, perhaps a glug of olive oil and some lime juice

  • Ah yeah now that's the stuff. I always look at my post ride dinner as a reward thing. I'm no athlete so even if I have only managed about 40 miles I act like I've just won my last ever Iron Man and get busy with the good stuff. Roasts, curries you name it.

  • lamb shish kebab lovingly prepared by the hairy guy in the kebab shop next to my flat.

  • I always eat tons after a morning ride because of my inability to eat breakfast without being sick or feeling sick for hours after.
Stop by the Chinese on the way home for chrispy noodles and fried seaweed (cabbage)

  • Why did I start this thread at midnight ? I'm tempted to ride out for a bloody hairy armed kebabshish and a root beer now.

  • cook some pancetta with a glug of olive oil and then remove from the pan, then add chicken liver, dusted in seasoned flour, cook lightly

deglaze pan with sherry or balsamic vinegar

serve on mashed spuds with some greens

If you do be sure to pass by mine on the way back, I'm hungry too now!

  • ^^You dirty bastard. Are we just swapping sexy recipes now or is that your post ride all time fave?

  • In summer I love a barbie after a ride. It happens rarely as I have no garden but last year I cycled with Benj to his father in law's place the other side of Ipswich and we got super busy with the chargrilled red meat once we arrived. My first ever 100 + miler and that feast was spot on.

  • Argentinian beef and pumpkin soup served in the pumpkin shell.

  • veal steak is a fave

  • or bbq at mine, pulled pork is a good one post ride

  • charsiu pork with pak choy is a good quick one too (pork cooked in advance)

  • Yoghurt crusted leg of lamb with rice an home made lime chutney. Marinade it while you're out and bang it in when you get back. Or braised lamb shanks with buttery mash after a damp cold wintery ride.

  • Pork Belly sandwich, so good.

  • slow cooker was amazing for things like pulled pork, or lamb shanks, sausage casseroles, coca cola cooked ham joints

  • protein needs to go in to the body within an hour of the ride

What happens if you dont get it within an hour?

  • Muscles don't repair/build properly......you need the protein.

I have an SiS rego recovery shake after a ride or football match....2 scoops of the banana and maybe a real banana in there too, jushed up, like.

It's very difficult to beat a bacon sandwich though, with sweet fire red peppers fried in olive oil.........and sweet chilli sauce!

  • Chocolate milk.
Perfect balance of protein and carbs. Also way cheaper and tastier than those powder things.
