Answer to further questions:
Mac was bought new by me in October 2008.
It is the model with the backlit keyboard.

I want this but do not need it.

Much as I love you, I wouldn't sell you my much loved macbook; I've seen the damage you do to inorganic objects...

I had one of these - such a curiosity. A unibody that isn't a Pro. I regret selling it when I bought my MB Pro - it really didn't feel like an upgrade.

Interested but can't pm you yet as I'm a new member. Will try tomorrow to pm you tomorrow if you still have it.
-

It's still available.
Howard, I know exactly what you mean, hopefully I'll not regret it.

bargain! Buy this upgrade RAM and put 2 SSDs in it (1 normal 1 replacing the DVD drive) and it's a beast.
You might want to put a Coconut Battery report up to push the sale
Edit: in fact if you are not selling it for financial reasons i'd suggest you do that and keep it ; )

Going to be working in the US for a while so will be getting one of the new SSD based macbooks. Even with academic USA discount it's still $$$$ which is why I need the dosh.

Meanwhile I'm off to google your advice on SSDs.
Thanks.

8GB with SSD is not bad though I have a mid 2010 MBP with same processor an SSD and 8GB ram, it is a mini beast.
This should cost;
£35 approx for RAM upgrade to 8GB (plus sell the 4GB for a tenner)
£80 X 2 + £35 caddy for a 256GB SSD upgrade (sell the current optical drive for a tenner)= £230 (minus £20 if you sell current stuff)
That buys you peace of mind for at least couple of years, if you want to absolutly go retina spend £95 (i.e. just one SSD) and keep it as a backup machine.

OK, I had no idea that an SSD could go into the optical bay, Amey, if I ever get the chance I owe you a pint and no mistake!
Apologies to everyone but I'm keeping the macbook.

Or... pop one SSD in as main drive (put OS and Apps on it) and a normal 720RPM 500GB+ Drive in, speed and storage.
Thats what I run in my mac mini and it's pretty damn fast... -

Had several more PMs so just to be really clear, the mac book has been withdrawn from sale; I'm following advice and have ordered an SSD drive and caddy to locate it in the optical bay plus an external enclosure for the dvd drive.
I'll post how it all works out.
Good condition, owned from new, it's used but much loved.
There is a minor dent in the top surface as shown in one of the pictures and the usual minor scratches.
It has a fresh install of Leopard 10.5, if I can find a newer OS disk I'll update it but at present that is what it has.
The battery was replaced a while ago and is in good condition and lasts well and it of course comes with a charger.
Basically, it's working perfectly and good to go.
Available for collection near Broadway Market / London Fields from this Friday, after Tuesday 8th I'm out of the country for a few months.
£350.00
Dibs followed by PM please.
