"Having a soft spot for Somecs"
I'm familiar with that terrible disposition.
-
• #4
Fuck Yeah!!! going to be great!
-
• #5
This is gonna be porn.

Looking forward to this: the 8v era was, for me, a highpoint for Campagnolo.
The spec if pretty much what I'd choose: your taste is impeccable!

Finally in progress :) my first completely Italian road bike.
-
• #8
Great turn around, looks awsome :)
-
• #9
Oh man its lovely!
needs porn white tape and hoods!
-
• #10
Thanks! White tape is most likely but I'm still contemplating on something black/white too. Definitely no white hoods, none available and too gaudy.
-
• #11
Wow! My personal preference would be white saddle, white tape, keep the black hoods. But you're clearly doing OK in the taste department. ;-)
-
• #12
Would.

So nice.

• #14
up(:

• #15
well bum
chrome all the way
-
• #16
please do black and white bartape (don't know how to express myself any better, but start with one followed immediately by the other - not harlequin, just a black one followed by a white one) to match the saddle ;)
-
• #17
You're right :) Just ordered this.
-
• #18
nice! was thinking about two sets and using half of them for the two sides but this is simpler
-
• #19
Yeah that's gonna look good! Please post pics when it's finished:)
-
• #20
9/10 would ride
-
• #21
Very nice! What are the bars out of interest, love the shape.
-
• #22
They're Cinelli Criterium bars (65 model).

• #23
The new group and especially the wheels do wonders for the look of the bike. Very cool bike so far!
Shame the frame is 'only' Cromor. With that selection of parts you almost need a higher end frame. A Mercury maybe? ;)
-
• #24
my "he's-putting-an-ad-wherever-he-can"-sense is tingling..
-
• #25
Hah yeah that's a better frame for sure but I'll be sticking with this one for a while :) Before I find that Columbus Max Somec for a nice price, in the right size and with a nice paintjob.
Having a soft spot for Somecs meant I couldn't resist buying this sparkly purple specimen when it came up for a nice price on the local marketplace. Not sure exactly what model it is. It's made from Columbus Cromor tubing, neither high nor low end really.
Shit shimano components all round so it got stripped immediately and put into storage awaiting completion of parts search. (bought this summer)
Going with a Campagnolo 8 speed mix of Chorus and Record from parts I had collected already. Most missing bits I've collected since buying the bike.
Plan:
Frame - No change except maybe a touch up here and there
Fork - No Change
Headset - Chorus
Seatpost - Chorus
Brakes - Chorus monoplanar
Shifters - 1st gen. Record ergopowers
Crankset - C-Record
Derailleurs - Campa 8 speed
Wheels - Shamal 12 HPW
Handlebar - Cinelli Criterium
Stem - Cinelli XE 110mm
Saddle - San Marco Rolls
I'm planning to start assembling in a few weeks.
