  • lovely frames these, super light. Looks like a 76 Tour De France?

  • maybe; I'm sticking to 74, but 75 and 76 also possible. Need a Gitane expert.

  • it's pre 75.

  • I reckon so too. (still sticking to 74).

  • Will the age of this frame add up to non-standard BB threads? And the rear mech hanger? And while I am at it, what is the rear OLN? And the wheel size, would this have been originally made for 700c wheels? I don't want to use long drop calipers...

  • It was certainly available in 1974 in this colour - Champion Blue - I believe. I'd just learnt to ride; simply so I could cycle to school. I had a Viscount Aerospace SE with a rack for all the stuff I had to carry. Someone in my year had an identical Gitane and cycled to school with everything in a bag, as he wouldn't put a rack on a 'proper racing bike' with tubular tyres. The reason I remember it so well, is that he treated it appallingly and it was forever being pushed due to some mistreatment.

Anyway, it's a great frame and I always liked the thought of having one. Very annoying to see one of the right size. I'm very tempted!

  • Anwers to Andrew"s questions :

    OLN : 125 graduated down to 122mm (I used with 126mm)
    Wheels : 700
    Brake drops : rear-54mm, front-48mm
    BBracket : 35x1 (French)
    HSet : 22mm entry (French)
    SPost : 26.2mm
Gear hanger : for huret, or campagnolo, or whatever you want to stick on it.
Colour : I don't what you call this kind of blue, but if I did, i'd have all my bikes painted this way.

  • I agree with you on the colour, but will pass on this one.

  • This one is still available?
