I think it would a shame to respray even with the damage such nice frames......so I vote lived in look. Maybe the respray shop can do touch up/restoration without having to do a complete job?

personally I would correspond with these people > http://www.hydro-graphics.co.uk/ < they do the finishes for feather frames.
if anyone could match in the repair in the uk, these would be favourite

what happened to the frame to get it in such chipped condition
usually i'd say no to any re spray but that is getting towards borderline -

Got it from another forum from a trader who said it was his mates old bike and cratches are due to being hung in his garage and the "rubbing" from that. Not so convinced! Looks bad but there are no holes.Bit rusty but seems more like surface stuff. I tried the "push" test and thankfully the steel hasnt given way or bent. Rest of the frame seems fine and did initially want to respray it all but if i can save it by just retouching the bad areas, id rather that.
cheers for the link rive gauche. Just got off phone from them and say they can probably help. Have sent them photos and will wait on estimate.

I'd vote to have some one try and restore/touch up the paint.
From the looks of the whole frame it seems ok and is a lovely paint job that would be a shame to loose. Also the paint seems to be mainly on the solid blue section so may be easier to have a localised section redone than if it was elsewhere.
fwiw hanging on a hook sounds plausible. I can't really see how else you could have such specific and localised marks.

I'm not gonna moan too much as I think I got it for a good price. But can't believe a numpty left it in this condition.

PinarellNO from the same source?
-

Yup, DIY paint job and fake decals, so worth a respray? It is a genuine pina, as serial number confirmed by pinarello themselves and the usual panto'd frame marks. It's a tig welded columbus genius frame called a concept. Pinarello didn't elaborate further. Apparently cippolini rode one?

Send the frame to me, I can blow that paint in! I could colour match perfect and probably still keep the Ernest Colnago sig.

Alas, james1234 has confirmed that restoring the paint may cost too much to fix due to intricate work to be restored. Still don't wanna raspray it. If I was gonna lacquer over the exposed areas, should I rub off any paint and remove the surface rust first? Or go over it?

how much is too much? for a frame like that personally i'd allow up to 400 for a professional refinish incorporating the original graphics - it's a very nice frame

thats an option im mulling over at the mo.

After a couple of new builds, merckx and pinarello concept, ive run out of cash but still not sure what to do with this colnago master pui.
Ive heard that there was a craze in the states, a few years ago, for letting top marque steel bikes go rusty INTENTIONALLY then they would lacquer over with silica type spray, thus stopping the oxidisation and stopping the rust in its tracks. Is this true? If so, this might be my solution (for now until i can afford proper repsray). The rust will prob continue but at a very small pace? Enough to last my lifetime?
Whats everyones thoughts on this?

My initial thoughts would be to carefully remove the rust by soaking in coke/similar. Then cleaning, drying, and carefully add some sort of rust preventative like jenolite* the just ride it and keep an eye on it.
You could carefully add a clear coat ontop if you wanted, but how often is the underside of the top tube going to get wet and grimy?
- the gel verson will be easier for this. You should also be very careful about getting it on other paint work as it may distort the colour. But overlapping the white base coat should be ok.

I take you have come across this...
or this:
http://www.bdc-forum.it/archive/index.php/t-142983.html
I don't know how well you speak Italian, but the person says that Carlo Dorsena costs a lot but he knows how to do a good paint job.
Im just about to put this Nag MAster pui decor (and my pinarello concept) into a box to send to cc finishers in liverpool for a respray. But im having second thoughts about respraying the nag. It is badly scratched under the top tube, as though someone has taken a knife or something sharp and just slashed at it. There are other minor little cuts and scratches but nothing as serious as under the top tube.
Theres a sticker at bottom of seat tube that says "varnished by Dossena Carlo". First ive heard of him and there is very little on the net about him other than he paints or "varnishes" bike frames. It seems a shame to remove the paint.
I would dearly love to recreate the paint scheme but apart from the cost It wouldnt be truly "original". So my option is to keep it as it is or completely rapaint in single colour. If i repaint it in one colour it will still be a master pui but i WONT be able to call it a "Decor" anymore.
Please someone help me to make up my mind. If i decide to keep it as is, is there anything i can do to help repair the bad scratches under the TT. Possibly something to keep the rust away as well?
This will eventually get a mostly c-record kit but with deltas (2nd or 3rd gen) and shamals. So either make it look like "new" or keep original paint and give it "lived in" proper bike look.
