  • Has anyone seen the ads for this? Can any good come of it? Will Dancing James feature?

  • Ads for what looks like deliberately antagonistic coverage of cyclists and motorists not getting on, lots of helmet cam footage.

  • Not entirely confident it'll help any except maybe perpetuate this arbitrary schism of random people based upon mode of transport.

  • The title and the brief amount of footage in the ad leads me to believe that it is designed to polarise opinions.

  • Think this will just show the new culture of motor vehicles and cycles and how we interacting in today's society!

From what I can gather from the footage, a lot back dates from YouTube.

  • meh, sound like people moaning about their "right" to drive is being compromise.

    (haven't seen the footage).

  • Cyclists should be allowed to carry guns.

  • I have a feeling that this may be more Mockumentary than Documentary.

  • Sorry if OT, I just noticed TERRIBLE DRIVER SUE TREPAK got found guilty:

Driver one Defendant: Chris Bassett, Court: Richmond Magistrates, Date: 28/02/2012, Offence: Driving without due care and attention, Result: PLEADED GUILTY RECEIVED SIX POINT AND A £230 FINE.
Drive two, Defendant: TREPAK Susan (Ms). Court: Richmond Magistrate, Date 10/09/2012, Offence: Driving without due care and attention, Result Peaded NOT GUILITY. Found Guilty - Fine £130. Court Cost £130. £15 victim surcharge 3 penalty points.

All information provide in this coment is in the public domain due the defendants being found guilty of a road traffic offence.
My comments on Drive 2 court hearing to come!

I'm not that cyclist but how the blinking flip that silly cow could plead not guilty is beyond me.

  • I would like to run a book on how long into this programme, the makers use some kind of kooky and/or threatening music to accentuate how bad the problem is.

  • The advert did make this look like the most unhelpful thing ever.

  • Yeah, I'm not looking forward to this. The BBC's reputation for documentary making plummeted well before Newsnight jumped the shark.

I can see it only acting to reinforce people's preconceptions, both cyclists and drivers, to benefit of no-one other than exec at the BBC lapping up the viewing figures.

  • Cheap tabloid 'journalism'. Unless it actually suggests a solution, it's not serving any purpose.

  • There'd been a lot of talk of this on the cyclechat forum when members who use cams were getting requests for their footage. IIRC a fair number of them pulled permission when the researchers they were in communication with used terms like 'war', and had to change the rights usage on their videos to Creative Commons so they couldn't use them without their permission.

This programme will be a fucking shitshow that will only seek to create animosity and make cyclists less safe.

  • Hope there's a hashtag for when it's on so we can counter its negativity.

  • Should, for any reason, after the programme's aired and you feel aggrieved, here's the Twitter account of Argonon, the parent company of Leopard Films (who made the programme).

    Obviously there'll be no need.

  • Looked like lots of that London Calling footage... that'll be popular..

  • When is this going to be aired?

  • Wednesday 5th at 9pm

  • I'd be interested to know if they have actually contacted CTUK / theAA / IAM / the fuzz or if the expert opinion will come solely from "Bob" who has been a member of the IAM for twenty years and can drive around traffic cones in a car park, and "Jenny" who cycles to work who both work in the production office.

“viewers will be parachuted into the middle of a war that is raging between two-wheeled road users and their four-wheeled counterparts in The War On Britain’s Roads.”

    awesomezzzzzzzzzzzzz.

  • I understand Cyclegaz, SonoftheWindsInc and Magnatom amongst others are contributing helmet cam film to the programme. Brunelle's "London Calling" has also been used, but I believe he wanted to see the final edit before granting permission.

I refused to participate. On the plus side, Cynthia Barlow of RoadPeace was involved with the production.
