    last year's here: http://www.lfgss.com/thread76915.html

A seasonal chance to feel the tingle and view the sparkle as London Town troops out as Tinseltown. Christmas lights will be burning their brightest for this warm and fuzzy-inside night ride. Marvel at the decadence of public display designed to get you spending in the shops, but pay no more than a nod to the Spirit of Christmas Present! Say 'bah humbug' to those who say 'bah humbug' to larking around the Bugbug routes and track-stand in awe as Tron Square flares up some of the last North Sea oil for our visual entertainment.

So a ride to take in London's night-sights.

when: Saturday 15th December 7.00pm start. main part done by 10.30pm.

where: Look Mum No Hands. http://www.lookmumnohands.com/

scope and duration: about 15 miles, in two discrete sections about 4 hours, about two pubs

Will post up more when I've reccied more.

**UPDATE: **I've done the reccies- There are lot's of engaging Crimbo lights out there- but some are just too much of a schlep for a large group and many fall dark from 9.30 so I've routed to stay central, wiggling from East to West trying to keep a high 'hit-rate' and stay within the time frame. For the same reason I've scratched a pub stop but have arranged a sit-down venue for food, booze and warmth once we're West. This way there's a choice to do the final leg to central with some planned sights, or to take your own, more direct, route home.

Two loo-stops before the food/drink stop, (it's cold, after all!).

Major roads kept to a minimum, but can't avoid some: /it'sabikeridenotaballoonflight.

Social ride, nothing pacy, There are a couple of short walk-only sections, but I'd like to keep moving. /shootingthebreezeoveraSlimlinePanatella>>>>>>>>

    now for the discalimers:

Bring all the kit you'll need to keep warm, hydrated, fuelled and repairable in expectation of five hours in the cold night. Selfridges loyalty-card for that impulse purchase? I think not. On the plus side, if you have a mechanical you won't have to book into a local hotel: it's feasible to get home.

Fixed or geared? Doesn't matter but there'll be kerbs, cobbles and occasional tight turns. I'm.happier fixed on this territory,

Central London, Saturday night, Christmas reveleries, sozzled pedestrians, impatient taxis, bugging Bug-Bugs, unpredictable cyclists gawping at illuminations. Just saying :-)

    Looking forward. J

shudder I've only had two punctures in the last 18 months and they were both on this ride! In fairness, riding over what appeared to be a smashed aquarium probably wasn't the best idea... :/

I assume the world's slippiest decking will be making an appearance?

.... I assume the world's slippiest decking will be making an appearance?

We'll give that feckin' decking a wide berth, even though it's at the superbly named Twinkle Park. How many of us stacked simultaneously? Was it four, with the loss of ratchet fastenings from two rider's shoes! So no mossy wet decking this time.

  • You got the date format wrong, John--should have dashes instead of full stops.
