700c to...?

  • Hi all,

got a Raleigh banana frame which I'd like to put 700c's on. Problemo being is the brake doesn't reach, due to the original wheels being bigger (cannot remember the exact size for the life of me).

Anyone know what brakes which reach the wheels? Ideally cheap as poss, it's just a winter bike for trashing around on.

are as long as you'll get!

Hmmm, surely much be some cheaper somewhere?

  • you want a brake set cheaper than £21??

  • Had simlilar issue when I put 700c wheels in an old Raleigh Winner frame.

As it was a retro build I went full retro and fitted a pair Weinmann centre pull brakes sourced from Mr Ebay. Somewhat surprisingly, they actually work very well.

  • You should really measure your brake drop before you go out buying new calipers. It's possible (although unlikely when converting from 27" to 700c) that you might end up with brakes that are too long rather than too short!
