what a terrible sequence of events - 8.15am so presumably full daylight.
RIP the first man and best wishes and full recovery to the second. -

Driver of van hears 'jolt' as he rides over cyclist.
I still can't fathom how killing someone by driving over them can be considered merely "careless", but I guess our lovely legal system and the CPS know better than I.

Prosecutors say his bike clipped the wing mirror of a car driven by [...]
Surely 'was clipped by...' would more accurately reflect what the prosecutors are saying? Weak reporting, as ever.

Both drivers cleared because of the sunlight in their eyes. It's verdicts like this that make me question the whether trial by jury is a good thing or not.

It is utterly baffling. If there's sunlight in your eyes, wear some sun glasses, put the sun visor down and lower your speed. The guy was hit by 3 cars consecutively, he stood no chance. Can they honestly claim they were driving a safe speed for the conditions if they then subsequently ran him over? What a tradgedy.

Highway Code 237 If you are dazzled by bright sunlight, slow down and if necessary, stop.
Perform by no one, ever.

Pitiful. Hopefully someone 'high up' has to deal with this kind of tragedy.
