  • Just East of Bermondsey tube station around 8:20 this morning I saw an ambulance crew attending a person on the central resservations. I didn't see details but noticed a dark Boardman lying on the ground. Hope the person is ok.

  • The scene looked pretty grim, hope its nothing serious

  • Somebody on twitter posted that forensic cars were there and that the guy looks dead.

I really hope he isn't correct.

  • Saw the aftermath this morning on my way to work. Somewhat freaked me out. A lot of riders walked wayyy past the scene before remounting.

  • It certainly did look grim.
I spotted what looks like the air ambulance crew (orange flight suits and backpacks).

Fingers crossed for whoever it was that required their attention.

  • Christ I did not realise that it was that bad, when I trundled past there was an Ambulance and a Rapid Response car attending to a person (Jeans + trainers, not sure on sex) on the central reservation (Oxygen mask + blanket). There was a old school triumph motorbike parked up and a cyclist (shaved head picking up a helmet from the east bound carriageway) I thought it was a ped that had been caught by the motorbike...

  • From what I saw, it looked like a ped had been hit by the motorbike.
    Motorbike on the cariiageway.
There was only one bicycle visible (looked to be undamaged) and the shaved head cyclist was standing talking to the emergency folk.

    But this is just conjecture.

  • According to the Southwark News newspaper it was a pedestrian who is in King's College Hospital.

  • I cycled past this at 0816 this morning.

There was a motorcyclist down and receiving attention. He was conscious and sitting up. Another person was prone and receiving oxygen and was there was a helmet and bike on the floor nearby. Certainly didn't look great. The ambulance was just turning up. I'm not sure if he/she was a ped or cyclist although first impressions were that he/she is a cyclist.

Two unmarked police cars were first on the scene and attending to the casualties.

Here's hoping that they are both ok.

This also sounds like a plausible explanation from what I saw. Motorcylist was definitely down. Cyclist could have been casualty, involved and/or first responder.

  • Thanks for the update. That is somehow slightly comforting.

  • I've come across two nasty accidents on that stretch of road in the last few weeks and both times it has been cyclists first to respond folowed by fire brigade/police. Thumbs up all round. Lets hope prompt attention is going to help along a positive outcome.

Do your first aid courses peeps ;)

  • Police describe it as a "minor incident" - so no fatality.
And it appears to have been a pedestrian.

  • ^ glad to hear it's not as bad as first feared. best wishes to the injured.

  • Awesome news. Hope the pedestrian and motorcyclist are swiftly on the mend and props to the cyclist who stopped.

  • Good to hear. Thanks Nan.

  • Glad to hear it wasn't that bad. They removed the barriers in the middle of the jamaica road 6 month ago or so, not sure why but it was clearly a poor decision in regards to pedestrians safety.

  • The railings were removed as part of a programme that in part sought to reduce traffic / pedestrian accidents.

A few lone accidents don't mean that this is a poor decision - It would be necessary to do a little further digging into the numbers before drawing any conclusions.
