Cycle Training for my kids - SE3

Posted on
  • I'm looking to get some cycle training for my 5 and 6 year old boys. We are based in SE3 (Blackheath).

If anyone locally based can help out here please PM me.
    Thanks

  • What kind of Cycle Training? 5 and 6 is pretty young for on-road?
This thread lists organisations and councils that provide CT

  • There's a good kids cycling club recently re-located to Eltham park on Saturday mornings. Limited Edition Cycling. They do British Cycling Go-Ride skills and racing. http://www.limitededitioncycling.co.uk/p/jnrs-kids.html

  • further to WW's question

can your kids ride already or are you looking to get them riding on the road?

if the first applies, have they used balance bikes and how far have you got with getting them riding?

if it is road cycling, they are possibly a little young, but a family lesson could be useful to help you escort them on road.

  • They both ride pedal bikes well - I started them off on the balance bikes and they have good control of themselves, braking etc. They cycle the short run to school most days - them on the pavement, me on the road..
We live in a quiet estate and I wanted to introduce them to the ideas of road cycling around here in a proper way, with someone who they will perhaps listen to a bit more than Dad.

  • in which case possibly a cycle lesson for the pair of them followed by a family session

  • sounds good. I'm sure that would really help our confidence in taking them out..

  • I live in your part of the world. The local roads can be daunting. I take my kids on the Thames Path. The bit from the barrier to the 02 is pretty wide, and it's a fun ride - you can stop off at the 02 and visit one of the cafe's.

There also a nice run going East from Woolwich Arsenal - a bit wilder but a safe wide path next to the River.
