so jealous its gorgeous

nice frame dude, nice to have another forum member in the club!

Bottom bracket sorted! Saw 40cm long seatpost lying next to my short skinny spanner so stuck the spanner in the seatpost for a super long spanner!
So this will be getting built up tomorrow! So for now,
Fizik or Concor?
Low flange DA to Halo retro rims - silver wheels. Or black Halo track to halo aerorage?
Nitto RB021 bullhorns or Nitto B123 drops? Dont like drops much so bullhorns for daily use probably. -

NJS 26.8 seatpost...
Is it possible to get clincher NJS wheels? Pretty sure they're all tubular in which case it may well be full NJS minus wheels..
probably a Kashimax though tempted to stick on my Arione or Concor instead...
Cheers!
Nitto SP72 is available in both 30mm and 44mm rails and a 26.8mm clamp size.
All NJS wheels are tubs - Araya's are currently the only NJS approved rims. You can also get NJS approved spokes and obviously hubs, but I am sure you can find out about the hubs yourself.
Be careful when ordering NJS seat posts though, if you want to use a saddle that isn't a Kashimax Five Gold FG-8P (most commonly used NJS saddle), you'll need the 44mm rail version of the SP72.

Oh and so is the Nitto S65 (available in 26.8mm) but that isn't NJS stamped, still lovely though.
-
• #7
Thanks! Will probably end up getting the 44mm rails so better choice of saddles, have heard the NJS ones dont suit many peoples bottoms..
Cheers for confirming that, may well be either non NJS wheels or hubs NJS and different rims. I'll decide on that later on!

Just a general question: as NJS is only a type approval, rather than a guarantee of quality, are builds like this just for prestige?
-
• #9
Gorgeous frame look forward to this
-
• #10
Yeah, never would bother with NJS rims to be honest.
Yeah I wouldn't get the 30mm. You can still get NJS approved 44mm saddles anyway, Five Gold FG-4P for example, well that is the only one in fact.
The Five Gold's are absolutely fantastic when in the drops, but apart from that, they're pretty shit for most, especially the 33mm version.
And Scilly, it's a stamp of approval but all of the stamped parts are generally considered to be of very high quality.... Full NJS builds are just porn though, and a lot of people think this.
-
• #11
Neither, especially being tubs, and i plan on riding this non stop when finished and tubs are not very practical in the city..
Oh really? That'll definitely be the seatpost i'll start looking for, what rails are the kashimax aeros?
Yeah and not a big fan of drops so will probably steer away for the moment. But can easily change my mind later on given there are 44mm NJS saddles around.
-
• #12
Aero's are 44mm.
They're not cheap though, the SP72 that is. The S65 isn't NJS but it's still a fantastic post. Be warned though, the SP72 comes in 250mm length only so if it needs to be long, you're shit outta luck.
If you want bulls, go for Nitto RB010AA's. They're only available at Tokyo Fixed, but they're easily the best.

Jonty, congrats, beautiful frame at a very good price. Surprised you got it, thought jimjam jumped on it minute after it was posted:)
jake, couple of things straight: not only five gold is njs stamped with 44mm rails, there are some others like for example ariake saddles and I think there is one or two other kinds but its impossible to find them in a non-disintegrating condition.
and kashimax five gold saddles are fine, as long as they are padded. I loved mine - but thats a saddle, and the only thing that should advise you on the saddle choice is your bum..
Just a general question: as NJS is only a type approval, rather than a guarantee of quality, are builds like this just for prestige?
it's all three actually:)

Great, another choice of saddle.
Ah thats a pain, how much will that set me out of pocket?
250mm should be alright, I'll have a look at that tomorrow. Yeah the S65 is tempting. I'll decide on that later, already got 2 to choose from for the time being.Already got the RB021s on my main frame atm and love them so reckon will stick with them for the moment.
Thanks for the advice, I'll bear that in mind if decide I want a change. -
• #15
Ah fair about the bars.
Martin, I knew these things! I just forgot at the time of writing ;-) yeah essentially, new saddles are kinda limited to Kashimax.
Just from general comments I've read, even the padded ones aren't that good. But yeah - all opinionz.
-
• #16
Oh and the SP72 new varies place to place. Google it. But over £100 retail I believe.
-
• #17
Yeah me too! The seller wanted a quick sale and he was on holiday I think.
I'll be tempted to give one of them saddles a go at some point if one comes up at a decent price and I have money to spend. Or if can borrow one for a while ;)
Ouch 100squids! Was hoping would be a little cheper than that.. Will probably have to wait around for a second hand one on here or somewhere else, or use one of my current ones, or the S65

do some shopping on ebay, if you want to keep it low cost and njs 8pilgrim8 or phil_the_power_taylor are people to go to
njs-export.com as well, 8pilgrim8 runs it I believe
browse misc sections and dont be put off by high postage prices, they normally are cheaper than they say -
• #19
and we're talking 60 quid cranks cheap here
-
• #20
Thanks a lot for advice! Will look about tomorrow! Very excited, can't wait to take it for a spin tomorrow!
-
• #21
That frame is such a lovely colour!
I'd say go with the Halo/DA, wheels. That sounds like it'd really go with the frame anyway.
I'm also tempted to say risers on it instead of bullhorns, but that's just my preference as I find them comfier and prettier. Reckon they would look awesome though. -
• #22
I have some 75s I'd sell if you're interested - around the £100 mark.
-
• #23
700x25 is a little tight.......
Okay deleted above photos, think I've got the set up sorted for the moment, planning on buying the parts slowly as money is sparse atm..
May switch the seatpost for my aero one, bar tape will be done properly shortly, ignore flat rear tyre.
Might want a white saddle?
-
• #24
Definitely no white saddle and Aero seat posts can >>>> on njs frames.
-
• #25
I like, what saddles that?
Deffo not a white saddle!
and yeah no to aero on that bike
Okay so I picked this beauty up earlier today as shown in the pic for a bargain at £270!
Previous owners pic, I may have to invest in a new camera for this thread as doubt mine will do this justice!
A little clean up and re-grease of the headset and bottom bracket and they're spinning nicely and frame is looking all shiny and pretty!
Tempted by a full NJS build if can find the dorrah, wheels will be the tricky part, and a NJS 26.8 seatpost...
Any pointers would be great!
Is it possible to get clincher NJS wheels? Pretty sure they're all tubular in which case it may well be full NJS minus wheels..
Other than that I reckon Sugino 75 Cranks and chainring, Nitto Seatpost, MKS RX-1s and unsure of saddle, probably a Kashimax though tempted to stick on my Arione or Concor instead...
The cranks and pedals are rather annoying as just sold a pair intending on buying a different frame and flipping the DA cranks between the two of 'em but hey ho, the cranks come up fairly regularly.
Currently own a Nitto Pearl and B123 Drops, BB, Headset and Chain are already NJS stamped so shopping list is looking a little more manageable.
If anyone has any of the above going spare I'll be happy to take them off your hands, priorities are the cranks, 165mm if possible.
Will get some more pics tomorrow and stick a couple of parts on so can have a better look!
Any advice on parts, especially wheels will be greatly appreciated, and if anyone spots any of the bits on the shopping list would be awesome if you could throw in a dibs on my behalf!
Cheers!
