Singlespeed Commuter

I'm planning on building a pretty basic singlespeed commuter and want to track my project and hopefuly get some advice.

I'm currently at the planning and sourcing stage.

I already have a few bits I'm thinking I'll use:-

Freewheel - Ebay freewheel
Wheelset - Weinmann DP18 Deep V, silver
Cog - included in above
Chain - Wippermann BMX/Track 1Z1 Anti-Rust Single Speed Chain Silver
Saddle - Bontrager Race
Front Brake - Shimano 105
Rear Brake - Hopefully Shimano Ultegra if I can attach it

I'm curently planning on getting:-

Frame - Dolan Precursa £200
Fork - Dolan Precursa inc above £0
Headset - Alpina Integral Headset inc above £0
Seatpost - Alpina Alloy S/Post inc above £0
Stem - Ritchey Comp 4-Axis Black Stem 2011, 110mm x 31.8mm £19
Bars - Profile Airwing OS Handlebar £30
Bar Tape - Fizik Microtex - Dark Grey £10
Brake Levers - Cane Creek 200TT Brake Levers £26
Crankset - Miche Primato Advanced, Black, 165mm £90
Chainring - 48T Black inc above £0
Bottom Bracket - Miche Primato Track £15

Total Expenditure - £390

Any tips on better parts for similar money gratefully appreciated.

Approved! You might need some pedals.

I particularly dislike carrying stuff on my back when I commute (or cycle any distance) so I like a saddlebag and rack but go with what you prefer.

Good point about pedals and bags. I have some 2nd hand SPDs and I'll use my rucksack for the time being.

I'm wondering if the Miche crankset is worth £90 or whether there's a cheaper decent alternative...

Edit: Just done a bit more reading and the SRAM S300 was mentioned which looks like it can be got for £83 including Bottom Bracket. This seems like a better option than £105 on the Miche Primato Advanced chainset and BB.

This might be irretrievably low-end, but I ran a Lasco chainset that cost about £40 from Velo Solo for about two years with no issues and it doesn't look that different. Just a thought if budget is a priority.

Pretty good option perhaps worth considering.
