Tibbs did a trip from Kyoto to Tokyo, there should be a thread on it, consensus is to avoid a fine, which can be quite high, put on a rear brake. When I was there I had two brakes, but rode fixed. Never had any problems.
Couple of people on the forum are still over there, so they'll be a better repository for more current information..

Cheers both, will drop Tibbs a message. Might end up just rolling round Hakkaido for a week rather than go for anything too strenuous

I moved out here about a month ago to Kanazawa, I don't currently have my bike with me but when i flew out Virgin Atlantic would have taken it for free as it is a piece of sporting equipment, so check that with your airline.
All of the people I see riding fixed around here ride with 2 brakes so I think its advisable, I am going to see about getting my bike shipped out/building a new one here and if so would be well up for a ride.
Anyone done this? If so, recommended routes/highlights?
I understand there's some legal implications for riding fixed in Japan so do people just tend to sack it off completely and take a road bike or just ride SS? Really do NOT want to hire a bike for obvious reasons so how do airlines deal with bike shipping etc?
Some seriously generic questions but hoping you guys can start pointing me in the right direction / do it all for me. Bonza.
