I've decided not to build this f&f's up. It was purchased some time ago already restored. The colour scheme is super rare, I have however found one on flickr though so it's not a one off. The red is tasteful dark red metallic and there are metallic grey fade stripes on the high points of the tubing. Of course this is the fantastic columbus gilco tubing. The decals were cyclomondos way before (I gather) he was asked to stop producing colnago decals. The bike was apparently sprayed by a classic car restoration company and the quality would appear to back this up. There are a couple of tiny marks but maybe only 3 or 4 and you have to look hard to see them. I bought the frame alone. I gave up trying to find the correct length forks so purchased some excellent forks and a machine company cut the steerer in half and machined a 40mm long steel sleeve to slide inside perfectly to lengthen it by 10mm. It adds 40 ish grms, it doesn't look pretty but it is undoubtedly stronger than the original tube! of course when assembled no one will ever know. The straightness was checked with a straight edge so will cause no issues with the headset etc. On another 'nago it's done two London to Brightons and will last forever.
I will add that although I cannot compare it to another gilco tubed bike I feel the frame may have had the tiniest of bumps in the past. The downtube may have a slight curve right where it goes into the headtube lug. There is no sign of damage to the top tube, there are no cracks or bumps or dents apart from this particular area. When fitted up with a headset & wheels the tyre is not close to the downtube as you would expect from a front ender. I asked my LBS and they disagreed with me saying it's the weird profile of the crimped tubes especially where there are squashed to fit into the lug. It's likely i'm wrong but want to point this out. Finally the non drive side axle adjuster has snapped inside the drop out. It may not affect a f/g s/s set up. You could with a steady hand, a new 2mm drill bit and a cordless drill it out and re use it.
