Old Bill pulling up cyclists on City Road this AM

  • I saw a gang of Old Bill pulling up cyclists on the cut through between City Road & Goswell Road, plus another crew outside the Virgin gym. They were asking them to dismount...I , for reasons best kept to myself was not keen to get my collar felt this morning, so made a quick sharp exit up the bus lane.

Anyone any idea what was going on?

  • They were pulling over RLJers around essex road/canonbury road.. could have been similar?

  • Nah, wasn't that, we'd gone lawfully at a green light - they stopped everyone.

  • Is it 100% legal to go through there, or is it like the Theobalds Road to Bloomsbury Road bit, which is actually busses only?

  • Maybe they are just being cunts.

Always makes me wonder what gruesome accident made them put those signs up

  • It's an official cut-through for cyclists, it has its own traffic lights. I thought they were bike mechanics at first., then thought they were just offering bike -tagging....then got nervous when I saw they were asking everyone to dismount.

  • Fuck knows then

  • Probably sick of the tragic and unnecessary toe-overlap they are forced to see each and every day

  • I wondered if it was perhaps the flagrant fashion law flouting of shorts with long socks combo

  • Ugh I saw loads of them today just milling around, I'm sick of people with white shirts tucked in to their trousers that they are wearing around their chest.

If it is for this reason they have my unreserved backing :D

Well they must have had a damn good reason, because surely you're not obliged to co-operate? If Po-po pulled me over and told me to dismount I'd want to know why before I did

  • If plod (either a constable, or in London, also a PCSO) asks you to stop, you must do so, without any reason.

If they (a constable only - PCSOs do not have the general powers of a constable, just designated powers) ask you to dismount, they must have a lawful reason - they do not necessarily have to tell you this reason, and it may be as vague as "directing traffic".

  • What if they fail to provide a valid reason? Can you just leave and get on with your day?

  • Only after you pants them.

  • But if you're not sure of where you stand legally, you should consult a lawyer, or do as you are asked.

  • They are currently pulling over people who RLJ on Farringdon Road at the junction of Stonecutter Street, Northbound and southbound

    Hmmmmm.

    evidently the the real reason

This is one of the few lights I don't jump.
They change quite quickly so it's dangerous but on the flip side you don't normally have to wait long if it's red.
